The dog thread is better than the cat thread, because it features dogs.

doesn't it become better just to put 100 quid a month in a savings account? We had insurance until it came to a claim for a hard tumour type thing (benign) on Clarissa's jaw....it was fixed to the bone....the vet mentioned gums and the insurance excluded gums (I think that was John Lewis)...we got the surgery done after we all moved to Brazil.
This gets suggested a lot and yes it probably would be, if you had the cash/credit available to pay for any treatment in the meantime. Lots don’t I’m guessing, we definitely don’t.

We’d have to pay for the insurance anyway whilst we were building up enough money to be able to cover treatment in the meantime.
X-rays for one dog was nearly a grand last year, so that’s 10 months of savings wiped out before any treatment.
It’s a racket but for us it’s the only way we can have the dogs.

I know it's been said before to me but I don't think I'm strict enough with myself.
I have a friend who works in a vets and she's seen so many people start off putting money in a savings account, only for them to spend the money on an emergency other than their animal.

I've just had a letter saying Cassie's insurance has gone up to £1169!
My job for today is to get on MoneySuperMarket.
Any past claims?
That is a lot if not, maybe they just don't want your custom anymore.
My elder insurance is £150 p/m but it is a lifelong policy and he has had cancer with regular scans and two knee operations in the past few years, if we change now the cancer is not covered anymore as it will become a pre-existing conditon.
All in all the claims/surgeries came to north of £15000 which we didn't have available at the time so massively quids in e2a: and with a happy living dog :) .

Kails usual groomer is still laid up so I've been taking him to a different salon. Just picked him up and very nearly came home with a second dog. :D As the staff were putting Kails collar on, a huge GSD leapt over the gate and sat in front of me and Kail soon joined him.

I think they planned that tbf. I certainly think Kail is telling me something.......

Farewell my sweet Kongkong (repost of pic from earlier in the thread); sadly was away down south when she died, hard life to begin with but hope we gave her plenty of happy years at the end. It's her pups I'm walking in another pic way back at the start of the thread too.

Hot Cross buns.

You know that Raisins and grapes are poisonous to dogs?

Well, funny story. TFH (That Fucking Hound, which is how I shall be refering to Monty from now on...) hoovered up a hot cross bun last weekend - how careless of us not to keep it in a welded shut steel box in the loft - but this only came to light when he was out out in the forest with Mrs K and the kids.

Rang vets to ask what to do - in we go.

They gave him a quick jab and he throws up within 30 seconds, put comes breakfast, the hot cross bun, and the Deer hoof he'd found. Just sat in the middle of the pool of vommit...

10 minutes after he'd thrown up he's fine, happy as Larry.

Have to pop him to the vets back in mid week for a blood test, just to make sure kidneys are fine - vets ring up, all is well.

370 fucking quid TFH has cost us. And do you know what, the hot cross bun came from a pack of six reduced to 60p... 10 bastard p it was.

Wanker.

She'd had a stroke I suspect a couple of months back and knew it would be soon, just sad it was while we were down on wife's hometown for Chinese new year and she was staying at the gran who minds our kids. Might even have been the change of location that did for her as she was mostly just hanging around in her basket. Painless and peaceful at the end.

Minging Monty, what a gopping creature ! You should acquire a pretty little poodle as well, with impeccable manners and exquisite taste, by way of Yin/Yang contrast :D

My little fucker had a raisin-filled fat ball off the table, then an onion bhaji. Cue two trips to the vet (luckly caught early) don't think he had the injection but given something to make him throw up - £300 for the two visits I was clearly lucky. As was he.

Sorry for your loss - what a gorgeous girl she was
