The dog thread is better than the cat thread, because it features dogs.

So not only did we say goodbye to Liz yesterday, we also said goodbye to Brandy and Tia.
It was a green burial and their ashes went in with her, I know it's daft but it's nice to think they're keeping her company.

Not daft.
Although I'd rather have buried them I don't have anywhere to do so, so I have my Radar's and Sonic's ashes so that I will have their remains for the rest of my life and want them buried with me (or mixed with my ashes and scattered if burial not possible) and same for any other pets I might have that go before I do.

Bit of a result with Frankie yesterday. I periodically called him and he ran back immediately at least eight times in succession. He was in the garden all the time, but stlll impressive.

I also think I finally understand the thing about not treating them all the time being more effective than treating them all the time. I never really understood it and never did it with Cosmo because I'd decided the agreement was that she did what I asked and she got a treat. I've done it a few times with Frankie and he's particularly focused on getting the treat so it sort of fixes it in his mind. Also I'd imagine it otherwise just becomes a routine: action treat action treat. Varying it keeps it fresh.

Yeah, I was out with my mate and her pug/JR cross yesterday, and she was saying she thinks Scout deliberately acts up around kids now so that my mate has to call her back and give her a treat.

I'm trying to separate it a bit - sometimes frankie will start barking at a horserider or walker when he's on the lead. I take him off to one side and say 'look at me' until he does and then he gets the treat. Don't know if that's going to help though.

that’s pretty much what I did with mungo when someone walked by. I rewarded him for staying in close, calmly, with a food treat

yes I give him a treat when he doesn't bark at someone, and I back off and then stand there force feeding him treats when horses go by - I hate it when he barks at them.

It's Kails birthday today. He's all of 8 years old so an older gentleman now by breed standards even if he'll always be a puppy at heart.

In this very dignified photo he's tucking into his favourite treat, a goose foot. He's got a session at the grooming salon shortly and another few treats throughout the day.

Oh yes, Dub definitely asks to go outside so he can come back in and get a biscuit :D

I'm taking him to the vets at 9 this morning so he can be put under to get his teeth sorted out.
I really hope it does sort him out because he's not a happy bunny atm, lots of pacing and panting at night.
I've been up with him since 2.30 this morning and ended up taking him for a walk at 4.30 to see if it would settle him - it did... for about 10 minutes.

I've started working (at home) now so obviously he's sound asleep

I hope it’s gone well and he feels more comfortable after. What has he had done?

Lucy was put under for a clean and some extractions and was fine despite having a heart murmur.

We’ve so far decided not to have Albert’s teeth done because he doesn’t seem to be in any discomfort and he’s 13 in the summer.
His breath is honking though, so so bad. I have to warn visitors.

The vet didn’t recommend doing it but I do wonder if it would be worth going ahead.

He had a couple of teeth extracted about a year ago and he was definitely a lot happier afterwards, and his breath improved greatly!
I'd say it's definitely worth getting Albert's done, prevention is better than cure when it comes to old dogs.

Today he's having his teeth looked at again, the vet thinks there might be an abscess in there somewhere and he's also having his ears cleaned.
When he was in last year I asked the vet to look at his ears because we thought they were bothering him, and they found a polyp one of them. Normally they would remove something like that but because it was so deep (very close to his eardrum) it would have been a big operation, involving the removal of most of his ear and we agreed that it wouldn't be fair to put him through something like that at his age.

I'm still waiting for a phone call to say I can go and pick him up. I hope he's OK :(

Just had a call from the vets and I can go and collect him around 3.30 :)
They've taken 3 teeth out - 2 small ones from the front and 1 big one from the back.
They also looked in his ears. The left one is OK, but the right one was full of wax and they couldn't really see what was going on, but they think that the polyp has grown, or that there might be a second one in there...

Phew
