The dog thread is better than the cat thread, because it features dogs.

It’s so shit for him. The vet nurses keep telling me he’ll get over it and probably doesn’t mind as much as I do, and reminding me that he won’t even remember any of this once it’s all healed up and he’s back running around. And of course they’re so right. He’s fine enough, has delicious food, sniffy walks, strokes and fuss, quite apart from the whole sofa to suffer on. Nevertheless he is not having a great time poor love.
If this was the cat thread I would be banging on about pet remedy or feliway, is there any equivalent for canines ?

I think there is but haven’t looked into it as, although I’m making a big fuss about how distressed he is, he’s actually coping with both the cone and the tail stump pretty well. He mostly just lies on the sofa until it’s food or walk. Which isn’t so different to what he did before. I think it’s maybe me finding this difficult rather than him.
I will, however, look at calming environment things in case it goes on longer than I’d feared. Thanks

There’s a few. There’s a plug in diffuser type, of which Adaptil is the main brand. We previously had some apparent success too with zylkene, which has milk proteins. How much is placebo and reversion to mean, though, I don’t know

Guess who had his remaining stitches removed this morning and his lampshade taken off, and who then chewed the scab off the stump while in the back of the car and has just had to have it re-stitched and the lampshade back on for another two weeks at least

This is Hilde, our new Balkan Underdog rescue who arrived 4 weeks ago from Serbia. She was so scared she had to be carried to the car and then into the house when she arrived.

For the first 10 days she would only emerge from her safe space (soft kennel in my office) to eat and toilet, the latter on puppy pads. She was utterly terrified of everything.

She eventually decided to come out when existing resident, Oscar, re-introduced himself and she decided he was the best thing ever - rather than a terrifying horror as she reacted the first time.

Still not house-trained, but going on walks with us. Roads, loud people, buses, bicycles, scooters, cars are all still very frightening.

She’s about 18 months old, and has lived at a “pension” since she was a young puppy, so is more used to being around other dogs and playing in fields than she is to an urban household.

Oscar seems to like her, one of the three cats has shown her who is boss. She still chases the other two though. She has an unhealthy interest in “Chilly” the parrot, so our lives are an extended version of that “fox, goose, grain across a river” puzzle.

We’ll get there, eventually, fingers-crossed.

She looks like a right character so good luck with that fox goose grain river puzzle; and sounds like you and your resident menagerie are all up for the challenges she’s bringing. Enormous respect to you x

I fed Larry tonight, a cup full of pellets which he wolfed down like someone was about to take them away, then Mr Tibbs the cat was there mewing a bit so I put Mr Tibbs's food in the bowl also, Larry wolfed that down also :) :( you would have thought he never gets fed!!

Oh poor Mr Tibbs.
Mungo’s the same and will eat anything that is put in his dish, even if he’s just had his dinner. The second he hears a bit of bacon rind hit the bowl he’s there. Apart from peas, which he leaves if they’re not specially stewy flavoured.

Definitely! Although Cara will keep hers in her mouth for ages, so it squelches instead of squeaks, then expects me to throw it. Eugh. I do though of course.
I didn't even realise this was a squeaky one, I just have the regular ones (off to internet shop I go...)

Kails normal groomer is laid up at the moment so I've taken him to a salon just up the kermit from me. It's a proper posh place, lots of lovely yet pedigree dogs that get dropped off and picked up in gleaming jam jars.

I can still hear the chaos he's creating from my flat and I live 200 yards away. I am laughing my arse off. :D they are so gonna throw his lead at me and banish us aren't they?

That's hilarious. Looking at the other dogs at dogs club I've realised Willow has got pretty shaggy. We've never got her a hair cut.

We try to wash her once a week but often forget, but I've noticed that now her fur is longer she enters smelly dog mode quicker.

I think wirey terriers it's not as simple as clipping then and they need a longer process called stripping that not everyone does?
