The dog thread is better than the cat thread, because it features dogs.

I met the loveliest dog while I was down by the river doing my bird counting today - looked like a poodle or poodle cross type thing, bounded over to me all happy and laughing to sniff my hand and then galloped off, then when they had turned round and were on their way back up the path it dashed back up to me again to say hello, really sweet and friendly creature and having a whale of a time :)

We had one of our family dogs die yesterday :( it's a bit of a tale really, because when I say family dog, Mishka was in fact a bloody weapon. 10 years ago my daughter was there at her birth, then she owned her for 3 years, but tbh the second year of that she was my dog. Then because of her weapon & ninja type 'antics'we had to tell the council rangers that we'd shot her ourselves, but in fact we dog swapped with boy 1 who had better fences and didn't live in the middle of town. He then got her a friend called Poppy, and then he moved to acreage and they've both lived the life of Riley :) :hmm:

But she died in his arms from a heart attack :( :(

This is my Lady...

She came out of the forest many years ago, I was raking and she came up to me and leaned. Someone abandoned her in the forest and she found us. I have no idea how old she is.

Lately, she has been moaning a lot, sad sound.

She is eating, drinking and goes out to do her business.....

I worry about her, but I moan a lot too, so I'm hoping it is just old age.

oh, she is barking, I should go let her in.

Oh I’m sorry for your loss ice-is-forming. Mishka sounds like a big character in your family and they leave a big gap when they go. Do you have any photos of her? Love and condolences to you and your family and her mate Poppy. It must have been hard for your son holding her as she went, I hope he takes comfort in having had that close time together. If there’s a dog heaven then from what you’ve described she’ll be wreaking havoc in no time. Or maybe, in dog heaven, dogs just get to be the way they are and no one is pissed off with them. Happy trails Mishka.

Saunders thank you for bringing the tears again :( :) :(

Yes, Mishka was a big deal family dog :) Went through some trauma with my girl & unfortunately became a weapon, unless she loved you. She loved me.

Boy 1, who was her human since late 2014, used to turn up at mine during his split shift when I lived in town and he didn't. Every day for almost a year she tried to kill him when he came in the back yard, in the end he just lost it with her and hit her over the head with his crash helmet.... then they made friends. He's not proud of that and it was frustration on his part , being brought up with dogs, doing everything he could to be friends with her and her still trying to kill him after so long. I think it was about who lived in the house with her.

She put one person in hospital, they shouldn't have been in the back yard , so no charges were pressed. And she nipped a few more and probably made a dozen people shit themselves. She'd wait for people too, sneaky. People would come round and be like oh you gotta dog, I don't mind if you let her go, yeah nah all good I was brought up with dogs, I'll handle her bla bla etc and just. not. getting. it.

I would have slept soundly in the street in the city with her beside me.

Not her fault, it was busy times and the whole household weren't adulting well. But she was a bloody ninja and the house was pretty open and outside I couldn't afford new fencing.

I remember her getting out the front one time ( was living opposite the very busy courthouse & cop shop) and this guy screaming and running. I ran out and she was almost on him and I was yelling out stand still! Don't even breath! As I was running to tackle her. He did not want to stand still obviously. The final nip was a tiny graze on the calf of a well heeled solicitor and after that we did the dog swap. I got Bruce the German shepherd ( photos on the thread ) and boy 1 got Mishka. Where her and poppy had lived happily happily ever since.

Was thinking earlier that Frankie is really sweet but easily fooled. I go downstairs and he nips into my armchair but when I come back all it takes is a treat and he jumps down to get it so I get my seat back :). Then I realized that he's no worse off - he's where he was before I went down but he's up a treat

Sounds like he's settling in well - and he's got the measure of you already by the sounds of it - mobile treat provision on demand :D

He does make me appreciate Cosmo too - he's sooo sweet and affectionate in all the ways that Cosmo wasn't in the 12 years she was with me because of her treatment as a puppy before she came to me.

Cosmo was collie/alsation cross and really intelligent and strong character and lovely in her own way particularly out walking she'd tuck in whenever I asked her for car or van or bike or horse passing.

You're not just not fooling him, you're actually reinforcing the idea that sitting in the chair is a good thing that he should do in order to be rewarded with a treat. (Not criticising, if you're fine with that then cool :) Just pointing it out as a thing to be aware of)

Yep can't argue with that. He's got my measure, he sits on one of the sofas downstairs when it's time to go for a walk and even though he wants to go for a walk he won't bloody move until I put a treat down low when he'll jump down

I call it training though so it's all ok :)

I don't actually mind him sitting in the armchair with me perching on the front, I've just strained my back from him pulling when we're out walking. I'm working on him not pulling when we're out walking though.

Just been down for a gin top-up and sure as eggs is eggs he's in the armchair. This time though I've not got treats with me so I'm perched on the front of the chair while he's forced to the back. That'll learn him.
