The dog thread is better than the cat thread, because it features dogs.

Definitely a case of the zooooomies there in the park !
Quite wonderful to watch.

Pre-plague, and him a bit younger, our Ben would run on the beach at Whitehaven.
But if one of the local sight-hounds joined in, he would give up fairly easily - apart from cutting corners to shorten his route a few times - unless he could get to the tennis ball first ...
One greyhound was particularly fleet of foot and seemed to have huge reserves of energy. But would sometimes "empty the tank" and flop down for a rest almost at random [even in the sea !], after which pause he would finally 'recall' to trot off home.

Frankie seems to be settling nicely :) . I was told to expect a lot of barking and whining last night but he just gave one series of a few barks when I was upstairs because I think he heard something outside. Rest of the night he was on the sofa opposite me which he seems to have adopted. He came and sat by me earlier and lent up against me so I could rub his stomach (which he does like) which was lovely, and which is something Cosmo never let me do in 12 years.

Trying a routine of taking him out first thing for a pee then food at 10 o'clock and walk at 11 o'clock, then (which was his routine before) walk at 3-4ish and food at 5 o'clock. Having written that though I'm wondering whether I should feed him after the walk in the morning, too although that would be a good 18 hours after his evening feed. His previous owner did however say that he was used to going to the toilet right after the meal. A bit conflicting

Am also wondering about the walk. He pulls quite strongly, surprising for his size really. But I don't really mind - Cosmo did at first but then after a while stopped. And he's largely pulling to go off and sniff at something and I don't want to discourage that.

I’m glad he had a settled first night with you. I would go with feeding before the walk, if that’s what he’s used to, and until you find a routine that suits you both.

Mungo’s out barking. I’ve just moved our beds into a new place and he’s been antsy all evening while I’ve been carrying things around.

He can be slightly disconcerting as he runs straight at me. The trick is not to move; he always runs past or slows and does a little jumpy swerve as he gets to me (so far):

The face if you zoom in :D 🤪

two sheds when I used to dog sit two springers they had quite different off lead styles - Megan would run ahead but run back to ensure you were still following and Gemma just used to loop around the path into the undergrowth then round again as you went.

(Megan is the black and white one)

I won't be letting him off the lead for quite a while but he is really responsive - keeps looking back at me and comes back to me when I give even a slight tug of the lead.

Went into the valley this afternoon and there was a fast running stream after the rain and he loved jumping around in that :)

Right well after four days he's gone from only lying on the sofa opposite me and not getting onto my sofa even when invited up, to getting to my place first and sitting there innocently looking at me. At the moment I'm upstairs perched on the edge of the armchair with him having taken the rest of it after sitting innocently looking at me after I'd gone downstairs. Better than a quarter of an hour ago though with him sat on the arm of the chair making it very difficult to type.

He's quite needy at times, wanting me to stroke him a lot. Which (a) is understandable in view of him being left alone before and (b) I quite like. Will see how it develops. He does lie with his feet in the air wanting his stomach stroked which is sweet.

Went for a walk with neighbours yesterday. He was fine with both of them, clearly fell in love with their dog and had a go at consummating (she's a fine figure of a dog) but only got a snarl for his troubles :(

he is adjusting, sounds great from where I am sitting it is all new to him right now and it takes a while to turn into a "new routine"

has he had the snip?
if yes worth letting it play through in future if the other dog (and their humans) is/(are) happy with it (have some cold water on hand though)

yep I'm really pleased at how it's going - he's really affectionate and wagging his tail a lot. And yep he's had the snip. Shame in one way because he's got a hell of a pedigree but overall I'm glad.

I'd feel iffy about asking whether the humans (or dogs) mind though - I've sort of resigned myself to putting him on the lead when he's out and about (to stop him running off, too). It must be difficult for him though - not being able to follow his basic urges :(

Our dog has ‘period pants’. This last season, she hated them and chose to stay on the tiled floor rather than wear them in the lounge

Are they the proper ones? Poor Lucy had cheapo Asds
knickers with a hole cut for her tail. :D
She also had to wear them when she was spayed as she wouldn’t wear the cone.
