The dog thread is better than the cat thread, because it features dogs.

There's an alsation rescue site that I'm finding very tempting. I think they're going to be a bit large for me though - Cosmo was between collie and alsation size which was ideal for me. Some lovely looking dogs on there, main problem is getting to see one of them particularly if they're outside Cornwall.

He adopted Mrs FA's slippers early on; doesn't chew them, just likes to have them close. If you move them, he goes and carefully picks them up & returns them to his bed, looking at you reproachfully all the while :D
My cockerpoo Luna is like that with socks, and sometimes those plastic balls that you put washing liquid in. When I come in from work she'll bring a sock for me to marvel at. Never chews them.

Have serious dog envy/pining this weekend as I’ve been walking on beaches and watching them having the time of their lives. And even after seeing two bulldogs nearly pull their poor owner down the concrete sea wall steps - she nearly went head first down the steps! And she remained cheerful! Cos she has two dogs, obv!

Who get's there pet's flea treatment online? Frankly it's a a faff fitting in any life admin these days and it would be much easier if the pets stuff was just posted like I get my own. I've been looking at some of the web sites that sell the products and they want a script. How does that work? Do you still have to go to the vet and get it? I feel awkward as obviously it's cheaper as well, but that's not the main reason I'm doing it. Once you have the script can you keep ordering or do you have to get a script each time, thereby defeating some of the convenience? Cross post to hit the dog and cat thread.

I get all my pet drugs and stuff online. Yes, you have to go to the vet to get a written prescription. These days, they generally charge you something like a tenner for that (plus the usual consultation fee). But then you get the drugs for about half the cost, so it works out way cheaper. Don’t feel bad — the vet certainly doesn’t seem to feel bad about charging you twice retail price for the things your pet needs to not be ill. Ask for the longest prescription the vet can give. It will probably cover six months or so. They have to check up every so often to make sure the prescriptions aren’t causing a problem.

I think you have to get a prescription from your vet, when I tried I never found a way around it. It might still work out cheaper to get a prescription and order online and you could ask how much they’ll prescribe in one go. If they do 6 months, then it’s much less hassle.

We’ve got a monthly plan with our vet and get 3 months flea and worming at a time plus their boosters and other stuff. That saves some time. I guess some vets might deliver.

Yes you have to get a script, but if you've seen your vet for something else in the last 6? months then I'd try phoning them and saying when you last saw them and that you know the dog has fleas because you can see them. My vet emailed the script to me for a tenner as remarked above, then just takes a couple of days to deliver from online. Was easy for me because I could say I was shielding and so didn't want to come in - I got repeat prescriptions easily for urilin because the vet knew my dog needed them.

And yes I initially felt guilty about buying online but then I got charged £80 plus the consultation fee for antibiotics that I checked and they were £30 online. That stopped any guilt, and when I said to the receptionist/vet 'look I'm sorry but I'm getting them online' they were fine about it. It's the practice manager that sets the prices anyway, not the vet/receptionist.

P.S. One visit I had to the vet for something similar, she just looked at Cosmo to confirm that what I thought was right and then didn't charge me for the consultation because she'd not actually had to touch her. Which was nice.

I did call them and they said I'd have to drop by to get the script. In a very nice way I said this defeated the point somewhat, so they went away and said they could email, but working out the details. They'll call me later for payment. So probably won't be any cost saving.

could still be if you're only charged a tenner, ie not for visit - and you'll like save more than £10 on the cost of the flea treatment itself

bit bloody silly if not because it's easy enough to tell if a dog's got fleas.

make sure it's a repeat script, the online place I use takes those for 6 months.

e2a: I use the above for different stuff, we actually have a plan for flea/worm treatment and get 3 months at a time from our vet.
Some vet practice charge more than double the price for some meds as I found out when checking the details of an insurance claim (insurance companies won't pay for overpriced medicines)

Larry has an awful memory. He goes on my bed, I banish him from my rooms. He moans ouuui oof ouiie ouiie. I let him back in because I can't stand the noise. He goes back on the bed and the cycle repeats. At the moment he is in my rooms, he is quiet, lying innocent like.

Make another move on my bed Larry and you will be out in the cold again, mark my words!!!

Ben is a bit of a jumper onto the bed, especially as a wake-up call. He does wait until he detects voice / movement, though.

He can also, sometimes, try to sleep up there during the day.

Currently, I have a somewhat dead duvet cover laid over the bedding.
It keeps his hair & dirty paws away from pillows, sheets and duvet.

If he didn't moult so I wouldn't mind him going on my bed but honestly it is amazing he has enough hair left for his own body the tufts that come off him.

Sleeping on the floor along the convalescent dog and puppy:
they know when yu wake up because your breathing pattern changes and :
"hello I have come to lick your face clean and jump all over you"
also as a side note:
they know whe nthe person in the next door room awakes through the same "mechanism" and face licking/head jumping once again ensues...
I love them
