The dog thread is better than the cat thread, because it features dogs.

He definitely did know that he was in for a dreaded bath. The dogs got back before me and my fa-in-law had let them in the gate and taken Sid (not a shit roller but I did see him snatch a large chunk of horse poo to eat) in to theirs. Mungo was nowhere to be seen, he was hiding in a corner of the garden. I had to pretend to do some weeding so I could lasso him and get him in the bath. He‘s now lying into the sofa very loudly licking off the offensive bath water.

My terrier will rub herself on your hair if you've just washed it, and often gets a bit of her dry food and rolls in it.
Ah that sounds rather more endearing than annoying.

A suggestion I read about why they roll in (stinky) things is that they find them stimulating, and pressing themselves against them is a way of grounding/ satisfying the stimulus.

I read that it was to mask their own smell for when they were hunting. Cosmo is quite refined and so has only once rolled in dead badger, many years ago. She does however eat shit. When she sees me walking towards her waving my arms as she woofs it down you'd hope she'd stop because I clearly don't want her to do it. Instead, she woofs it down even faster to get more of it down her before I can stop her

I’ve already shared this tip but you need to wash rhem in a tomato based product. Ketchup, purée, tinned tomatoes at a push. Albert has only rolled in shit once but he did it whilst we were sharing a tent with the little bastard. So I showered him in ketchup and it completely got rid of the lingering smell.

Hello again, good and urbane gentlefolk of Urban.

I'd like to introduce you to Belladog.

She's what's traditionally and colloquially known as a (roughly phonetic,) "Heung Gong Haak Jung Gau", which roughly translates as a Hong Kong Black Bastard Dog or Hong Kong Black Meat Dog (good food in the olden days - and still today among some older villagers, although illegal).

More recently, and politely, known as a "Tong Gau", "Chinese dog" and locally translating as "Village Dog" (typically a mix of just about everything but usually involving some Chow and Sharpei ancestry), they are rural country dogs, often stray/feral (still too many thousands of them!) and have, of course, evolved and adapted over thousands of years.

Bella is the 10th Tong Gau I've rescued over the last 28 years (Jessiedog being the first,) and is my only current dog (the others had very long and very good lives). She's mid-sized (about 25kg,) and, clearly, had a German Shepherd shoved in there at some point in the last few generations of her family tree.

Anyway ... she's twelve years old now and has been my constant, right-by-my-side, companion since I rescued her four years ago. A more loyal friend would be difficult to find. She's still puppy-like, energetic, playful, inquisitive, elegant, charming, insistently needy of attention - and as smart as a button.

And I fucking love her to bits!

These pics are from Xmas 2020.

Please meet Bella:

Ohhhhh maaaaan! Xmas is so fucking boring!

Well, I mean until I get my presents that is, then it's really fucking cool!

But, after that, all the excitement is soooo fucking exhausting!

Wait! What? There are more presents?!!!

...

(Narrator's voice: No, Bells, I'm afraid it's all done now.)

Ahhhhh! Fuck it! Xmas is really booooring! Anyway, what's for dinner?

...

She's one in a million.

Take care, good peeps.

Be nice to each other.

We're trying to give our dog worming tablets. Have tried wrapping them in ham and cheese, or craftily inside a chicken nugget but no luck. She literally eats everything around them and then spits the tablet out.

Any tips? The alternative is to take her to the vets and let them do that "shove it to the back of the throat and then rub their neck thing" but she absolutely hates the vets and wont get in the car for ages afterwards if we try it.

She's a fucking pain sometimes tbf. :D
