The Closing Ceremony

That ceremony was dire. Jessie J was very easy on the eye. :)

Fortunately another channel had Top Gun on. I kept flipping back to see if it got better, but it didn't.

Well, if they get the infrastructure right, don't doubt how amazing a Rio games could be.

I've lived in Rio de Janeiro and a few other famous cities, including Barcelona. Rio make the others like Widnes. It's staggeringly beautiful and the locals are amazing.

Here's our street-sweeper friend. I've seen the tram driver at work too.

It's a pity their part of the ceremony was so lifeless.. if any city can do vibrant it's Rio. Maybe it was just me expecting the carnival to be dropped into London for 8 minutes.

Infrastructure should be fine. There's a good metro system already in place, they'll have had a run through with the World Cup. They're changing their policing already (far more visibility in 'touristy' areas).

If Deli can do the Commonwealth Games, Rio can definitely do the Olympics and using Copacabana as a major venue is

The metro in Rio is shite. 2 lines for a city of 6 million people. If you live there you get the bus or a van (the ultimate carioca experience) much more than the metro. They are panicking about infrastructure and behind schedule. The Delhi Commonwealth games were a bit of a disaster if I remember correctly too.

I agree that they could have gone for it a bit more for their section of the ceremony. I imagine the real thing will be awesome though.

Their closing ceremony will rock if they persuade Sepultura to reform.

Meanwhile glad I didn;t watch a second of that bollocks last night. Team GB? You're having a laugh.
Back to reality. Check your bank accounts.

But (and this is the point regarding infrastructure) it already covers the main venues of the games (or work is scheduled to cover it) so you can go from Maracana (athletics) to Copacabana (water sports a-hem) and there are several stops along that stretch. It also covers most of the area where the hotels are. It needs to be good enough for the Games, not for the city.. although you would hope there is a positive to this.

The new Olympic park will not be reachable by metro. Having lived in Rio for a little bit, I would say they have some serious challenges.

hm well that makes no sense at all, but all the internet and everyone else in the world appear to agree with you so i am going to have to accept it.

So Prince Harry's real name is Henry? I thought OU was winding you up... But if you say you've checked. I was wrong too.

We obviously have different information. There is an extension/ new line being built to Barra de Tijuca where the Olympic Park will be?

It sounds like it won't be ready in time. Or it's touch and go.

"The planned Olympic Park lies beyond reach of the metro and direct bus lines.
The metro is being extended, but that requires blasting through a hillside of solid granite.
The completed tunnel will be nearly 6km (nearly four miles). But it is slow, laborious work and in two years, they have managed only 2km.
With the Olympic clock ticking, Rio does not have the time to build an extensive new metro system, or for that matter, the money.
So instead the city has bought dozens of new buses, which travel in exclusive lanes....."

I didn't know what his or his brother's surname was until he married that Pippa lass.

That's because they don't really have surnames. They chose ones to use in the army, but there'd be no surname on their birth certificates.
