Tell me all the things you would try to get a new job quickly?

I need a new job, urgently - in that I can't afford for as long a job search as it took last time.

What I have done so far is: updated my CV and posted it to the jobs databases online.

What else could I do?

I think I might start just applying directly to companies I might want to work for on the off chance that it might create an openning for me.

So anyhow, ideas please folks! :)

Agencies. Find lots and call them up. Don't expect an email to be replied to or even read.

Speak to 'em.

What's your skill set like?

Skills and experience not too bad for the type of work I do.

Yes, I might well focus on Agencies..

hmm.. only thing is many of them will (should) contact me via the online CVs...

Still some more can't hurt.

in my expereince you get put to the bottom of the pile with agencies unless you talk to someone and they realise you can actually hold a conversation and they get to know you a bit.

I don't mind getting pushy with agencies.

My biggest hurdle, as last time, is that I want a suitable job within 50m of where I live.

If I could move anywhere I am sure I could win through much faster but I can't.

apply directly, and network intensiely amongst both their HR folks and the heads of the departments you want to work in

Yes, I think that is a good idea..

There is also an industry body, sort of a trade association which I used to be a member of. I might join up again and try to get some leverage through that.
