Teaching in prison

Has anyone here had experience teaching in a prison?

No, but I know someone who does it. I'll see if I can cajole him to post here.

Are you considering it? I would, if there were a female prison within an easy hour's travel of my place.

Yes, I am.

I've taught in probation offices and liked it most of the time, but obviously prison would be different in a number of ways.

I'm hoping to find out what's happening in prison education at the moment, to what extent literacy and numeracy teaching is tied to Nat Tests and Nat Test targets, to what extent there's also good stuff going on, whether there's any success with 'embedding' Skills for Life in vocational training (all the rage outside, though much easier talked about than done well, IME) and... probably lots of other things.

Most of all, I think I just like to hear other people's experiences.
