sunbound unsound beach party

In my day........we did a gram of mdma for breakfast and still made it down the pit for a 12 hour shift before hitting the pub and downing a dozen pints of mead...

Just back home now. Wow that was utterly, completely fantastic! :) :D :)

More tomorrow when I'm a tad more together... and I'll be helped by having watched film footage (tee-hee ;)) from the last two weeks on the big screen a couple of nights ago. Got all weepy I did.

Yay! That was fun!

:)

Right then!

The two weeks have blurred into one a bit... but some of the best bits were dancing in the sea on the first weekend as the sun came up, going from sound asleep by the fire to bouncing around to Superstyling in nanoseconds, watching LDR run after shiny things, the really lovely way everyone was watching out for each other and trying to make sure we didnt burn...Kameron bounding around and around our chalet like a puppy on, well, ketamine :D

In the second week after several Italians had made a tent city on the beach -Friday night, when loads and loads of locals came along and almost everyone on the beach took acid and we rolled around in the sand gigggling all night and then danced in the sea to an uber-technicolour sunrise... the gabba mix of Teddy Bear's Picnic ( ) before we watched the movie, *finally* making it to Matera after three attempts.

We lost our peace and quiet on the site a bit when fucking millions of basketball-playing little people turned up to run around screaming, and when Pinkmonkey El Jugs, longjon and i had to move into two chalets that were still being built around us and closely resembled wendy houses. But it was gloriously hot and sunny and the music was great.

Thanks so much to everyone who rallied round to help when I dropped my purse on the plane, and massive thanks to Kinsales, Mango5 and golightly, Pinkmonkey and El Jugs for lending me cash, and to LilJen for getting the purse back to me from the airport police. It'll take me a couple of days to sort out new cards.

Thanks Sus, thanks Roby, and all the DJs (especially Hollis! :D and Cloo) for making it such a wonderful wonderful time.

Excellent pics from everyone :) - I'll post mine on the pics thread later.

I'll stop gushing now before we're all sick.

Acid!?????

I can't believe I missed that!!!!!!!!!

I'm glad you got to Matera, Mation! What a fantastic place that was...

I know! We couldn't believe it - all of that and acid too. The woods behind the beach started to look like a beautiful primeval forest and was a very good place to go and come down in, with the help of some MDMA - ahem :D

Didn't get to stay long in Matera but saw Sassi and yes, it was gorgeous. Poor old longjon had to put up with me on a blood-sugar crash though so he may not have enjoyed it as much. Thanks lj for being such a good friend throughout the holiday :)

What got messy? Did things go a bit weird in Metaponto because of acid? I'm intrigued now!

(hope everyone is ok, btw)

It's one of those drugs which can really mess you up! Luckily I've never had a bad trip on acid, but I know a few people who have...

a few people were very messed up from the acid. it was a bit of a crazy idea after a week of caning mdma imo. bad trips & paranoia for a couple of people. :(

 I remember commenting as I watched the sunrise last Weds 'If this is the sunrise on MDMA, the sunrise on acid would just make your head explode.'

Sadly sounds like some people's heads did explode (metaphorically) a bit later...

Waaaah! :( :)

Just saw someone's username: Echo Beach. Reminded me of several of the daytime sessions when this was played.....

Not sure if it's been confirmed as definitely happening.

I'm sure sus will be reporting back on the boards in the not too distant future.

;)

It looks as if it is happening :) - campsite owners are up for it - the last thing they said was 'see you in September' - they loved us apparently and thought we were some of the best people they'd ever hosted in their site and were raving to Robi about us!

I'm sure Sus will be back to tell all re. September in a few days ;)

We had a ball.

It was good to do the whole two weeks (my liver disagrees). First week was great with the Urbanites - loved meeting Shirl and Wolfie properly for the first time - enjoyed hanging about on the beach with the craft club and getting hammered on communist wine. The food was fantastic - we cooked most of the time and as a result the holiday cost us feck all - anyone here who was thinking of going but was worrying about the cost, please don't - it was only 80p for a litre of wine and the food was much yummier and cheaper than back home. Takeaways weren't much either - three quid for a freshly made large pizza - it was so nice to go somewhere and not feel like a ripped off tourist.

Chalets were great - clean and very comfortable - they far exceeded our expectations. I thought the camping spot (tents) on Riva Dei Greci could have been better placed in a more secluded spot though - I really felt for those camping in the second week as the adjacent baskeball court was full of noisy kids who were at their basketball summer school from 9am each morning from the Sunday of the second week.

The campsite itself was in the Metaponto nature reserve and there are lots of secluded walks through the forest which is jammed full of wildlife and plants. One day we braved the (very) wobbly bikes the campsite has for hire and explored ruins of three greek temples and a theatre.

The beach was fab, white sand, no high rise hotels, just trees and warm sea water and calm shallows.

The sound system found its natural home here - for those that loved the arches it was brilliant to see how they brought the vibe of that place to a beach so succesfully. Most of the faces you love to see at Unsound were there - it was great to get to know people properly that I knew only by sight previously.

By the Friday of the second week, the weather had warmed up considerably, there were more tourists and the locals had got wind of us being there. So the Friday and Saturday nights were pretty busy with lots of Italians getting down to the sounds of Unsound. Tents of ravers were popping up on the beach.

I loved the sights in the daytime, of families passing the sound system, just stopping and staring at us, the fire, the banners, the munters, in sheer puzzlement, some even bringing their grandkids to look at us :D

Highlights for me

Two weeks of Unsound partying. They didn't switch it off for two weeks kids! :)
Fighting with an inflatable dolphin in the sea after far too much red wine at 7am one morning.
Going on sunscreen patrol as it got light after the big nights.
Swinging in a hammock looking up at the stars and listening to Dub's dub
Dub Dadda's set, meeting him later and getting a copy of his album - thanks Dub Dadda
Hollis's eclectic Wurzels/Hardcore set (Ibizan DJ's who claim they play eclectic sets? Pah!)
Cooking dinner for 10 on the last Sunday night - we just grabbed random and hungry looking types and got the barbie going.
Watching a movie on a big screen on the beach one night before the party started.
All that luvverly drum n' bass.
The Monday night 'viewing' of the dvd of the party the Saturday before. Very entertaining!
Making tons of new friends and having a proper larrf with the ones I knew already.

September - if you can get the time off you are all going, ok?

I have other travel plans in September, so won’t be there then and on the whole I have a huge list of places I want to go that I haven’t been to yet (and paltry holiday allowance), so another whole week is unlikely.

But if there’s another one in subsequent years I can definitely see me and gsv popping out there for a long weekend, fer sure.
