Strawberry Fair, Cambridge (June 7th)

I was all up for this again this year but now it looks like i might be down west at Contagious on the Friday night, so dunno if I'll be back in time (or in any fit state). :(

heh, dunno about 'missing out' but it'd be grand to see you there shells.

we can arrange things this weekend. init.

I am sure that i am missing out on things all the time:hmm: I am pretty sure right now someone is having a bloody great time doing stuff i want to do..the bastards.

I have never seen a foo and unix in their natural habitats, it is going to be like Naturewatch fen stylee:D

Anyway i reckon it will be ace and i can visit aunty foos house, unless you make me stand outside :(

Ooh, haven't been to this in yonks.

Would love to go if we can find somewhere to park up and sleep in the van (AFTER the festie, obviously) :D

Hocus Eye will be there for the third year in a row. It it the only time when I have met any Urbanites in real life. Those who met me last year may remember the short bloke with a beard who mostly lay on the grass staring at the blue sky and drinking beer. They may try to end it at 8pm but I doubt if they could enforce it. The local pubs would be unable to handle the result. I won't be getting on a train home before I need to.

Hocus, see you there near the usual place geeze. We understand that the SF shenanigans will continue to 10 pm as usual, the 8 pm rumour was bollox it seems :) :D

I defo coming along to this, me aunty foo told me it would be good

did i?

bear in mind i was off my nut :D

tbh, i'm one of those mardy arses who thinks Strawberry Fair ain't what it used to be. not as many good stalls, not as much good music, too many police....etc. etc.

an example of how things have changed - there has 'traditionally' been a procession through the streets leading on to the fair to start it off. a couple of years ago, when we were in the samba band, the police allowed us to walk through town (with them as escorts  ) but we were only allowed to walk with our drums held down  so that we didn't disturb shoppers. basically, they insisted on a silent samba parade. i mean how bloody ridiculous can you get in the name of health and safety lol.

typically perhaps, me n unix kept whacking ours when they weren't looking just to piss them off :D

but. like anything, it depends who you're with, and the weather doesn't it. :) if it's a sunny day, and we're all togevva on the grass, then yep, it'll be good. xx

Are those samba drumming restrictions set in stone now foo? Was it the same last year as 2 years ago?

:(

I didn't think the Police presence on site was TOO bad last year. Yeah there were copper couples wandering around sporadically, probably more than previous years, but the place was too crowded for it to be Policed all that effectively ;)

Maybe I missed some of the more annoying incidents though?

It was the British Transport Police presence at the station that really got peoples' backs up last time. Be warned if you travel there by train on Saturday, and pack yer daybag sensibly ....

you know me William....just seeing one copper when i'm set on having fun is enough to make me spit  ;)

it probably wasn't that bad last year - i was probably still prickly after their crap attitude to the procession. as far as i know, the rules are still the same though - a silent parade  i'm not in the band any more but i work with one of them so i'll ask him.

anyroadup - see ya there William me ole mucker, and hopefully meet your lovely lass.

and buy your train tickets before boarding the train as there are now ticket barriers at cambridge station :D

will be there and looking forward to it :)

Oh yes, will definitely happen, we're solidly up for this. Deb has never been to the Fair and sees this as a big omission to be sorted. We'll be in town from the Friday evening too

procession is happening William :) - and they are allowed to drum when they get close to the common apparently.

just not through town because of disturbing all that is holy in cambridge these days (ie. shopping)

Cool, are you in it yourself this time? We will make sure to get there early enough to see .. tis a good excuse to get onsite to the beer tent early as well :D

It's not, it's cos my dancing buddies are all cramming for their exams and it puts them off.

(If the fair was on a couple of weeks later they'd have got away with it.)
