Strava thread (for users of)

Did 50 miles on the bike this morning but had set my watch on indoor cycling so the GPS didn't start

Turns out people you ride with can offer it to your strava too.

So it's recorded but with no segments

Will look for that one. I’ll be the one out at 5am grabbing obscure KOMs for some arbitrary target I’ve set myself...

Went out for three hours early this morning while the roads were quiet and bagged KOM number 1000

This is what bank holidays are for.

Just got my first ever top 10 placing (9th) on a Strava segment. Pretty chuffed as due to being in Birmingham there’s a) thousands of people on most of them b) a lot of seriously quick club riders and even some pros knocking about and c) I’ve only been doing this for 18 months

 :D

The day before I leave London forever and some mean individual steals my best KOM (24,000+ riders) on a dawn raid. Harsh.

bumping the thread to talk about local legends.

I like that it gives me a chance to compete with people whose speed I could never match .

But it can make me more of a slave to strava, trying to hold on to my segments. Got home today after a gentle 9 miles and found someone had taken a segment. I guess that's next week's routes sorted out.

Could a mod move this thread to health and realtionships please. It seems to fit better there FridgeMagnet Lazy Llama

My KOM total has dropped by about 60 this year, empty roads for lockdown meant I got cleaned out of quite a few in London (while I was shielding and couldn’t do much about it). When I did get back out in May I had a bit of a blitz and got 50 crowns, but my overall total was still less at the end of the month. Also keep getting rides from years ago flagged for no particular reason.

Local legends is nothing for me as I only get out about twice a week if I’m lucky, don’t bother recording my twice daily commute as it’s only about 600 metres!

There's one (running) segment near me that is a 5x hill rep - about 250mtr, with a 30mtr elevation.

I only did it about twice in six or seven years, but since getting Local Legends I have to do it about twice a week to see off the competition .

That competition is a 24 y/o lad (half my age!) who runs at 3.30min/km on the flat, so hills are my only chance to beat him!

I've become a Local Legend!

Totally unexpected as it's on the local National Cycling Route and I've only ridden the section 4 times in the last 90 days. :hmm:

I can only think that the people I see on it aren't on Strava or that those who are duck out of that section to avoid a couple of nasty climbs.

It’s my 50th at the end of the month, so as a rage against the dying of the light I’ve set myself a challenge of getting 50 KOMs this month before the birthday.

6 days in I’m on 24.

It’s also now turned into a challenge where I go out and get at least one every day, usually late in the evening as traffic is still really light (no taxis or pissheads). Guess it will get busier in about a week so piling them in early, making sure to leave a few easy or local ones for the days when the weather isn’t any good. Dry, windy is fine. Cold not so fun, tend to skip the climbs if I’m weighed down with extra clothing.

Last time I did something stupid like this was when I was still living in London, where every single road has four segments on it, less easy in Bristol where the segment density is much lower. I’ve only resorted to making one of my own so far. Anyway, it’s nice to find some motivation as it’s been a rotten autumn/winter here, barely got out as it was constantly wet and horrible.

Does paid Strava give the option for it to give you routes of a given length? I’m really looking for an app that will give me say (random) half hour circular walks starting from my location. I wondered if paid Strava did that?

It definitely does that for cycle routes so assume it does for walks too....
