Storm Darragh

electricity off for 18 hours from about 12 Saturday to 6 am. Lit the rayburn so I could cook and so it was nice and warm in the kitchen, phone and speaker so I had something to listen to, and wind-up lantern which was surprisingly good plus head torch for when I actually wanted to see.

No landline so had to assume the line was being repaired (it was, poor sods out there all night doing repairs), wasn't totally sure it wasn't just my line that was down.

Head torches rule!!!

I use it every night to let the dog out for his nightly plossen - I need one hand for the lead and one hand to negotiate the door handle because if I use the same hand as for the lead he tries to dash out and gives my hand a strong jerk which stretches my tendon ouch.

Yes, my power was out for a little while. Ok I thought, I will have to amuse myself, nope can't do that, can't do this, or the other, can't do much, this is just pants!!

For the people who are safe and sound and just a few twigs got blown down: glad you are good!
For the people who are safe but not sound (water problems, housing problems): I'm glad you're good but sorry you've got to clean up and bucket everything out.

It's scary when you least expect this type of stuff. frogwoman had told me about the storm the other day, and I'm glad she's okay, just as I am happy to see everyone reporting in. I wish the best for everyone in however they are cleaning up and hope it's not super super extreme.

Apparently, more trees came down in Cardiff last weekend than in the last 20 years!!
Something like 300 odd calls in a weekend

In Carmarthenshire the figure was put at 'thousands'.

A40 closed this morning, I think they are clearing the 'didn't fall but will if we don't cut them down' ones.

Destruction of things is not always bad, it seems. The people at Save Our Bays are hopeful that the partial destruction of a seaweed farm at Bideford Bay will undermine the efforts of a hydra-like aqua-business to surround the coasts of Devon and Cornwall with gigantic inshore seaweed farms.
