I just started series one and am struggling to understand the french legal system somewhat. Pierre is a prosecuter- but not attatched to the police but having some authority over them? like what- a CPS bigwig?
Judge Roban is a judge yet isprosecuting a case and summoning people as part of his own inquiry? like what- a lord chief justice? a levenson without portfolio? is confuzzling.
French bobbies do wear some atrocious hats but then saying that, our lot are titheads
I liked Borgen, didn't really like The Killing. Definitely need a new show with subtitles though. Will try Spiral.
French system isn't adversarial, it's inquisitorial, so the magistracy investigates, so Roban is the presiding/senior magistrate (he's equivalent rank-wise to a district judge, so not anywhere near the rank of a law lord) who directs the case, and Pierre is one of Roban's people, chosen to investigate the possibility/probability of charges in collaboration with the police. He can also (somewhat) direct the police as to what to look for etc.
I would, but that would involve effort.Start at series 1, though, as the stories/series have continuity, one from the other.
