An early goal can flatter to deceive somewhat, but Spain have been patiently applying the pressure and it does rather seem like just a matter of time.

Fuck it, I could pundit for ITV with that kind of analysis!

To say Jim Beglin is a little blinkered in this game... well, he's really quite blinkered indeed, is what I'm trying to say here.

"It's just tippy-tappy football for the sake of it" Well Jim, it seems to have done pretty well for them in recent years...

Shots on/off goal according to:

BBC: Spain 11/3 Ireland 2/1
Guardian: Spain 6/4 Ireland 1/2
UEFA: 10/4 Ireland 2/2

They do all agree Ireland are losing tho

But he hasn't done well for either of the two goals.

Barry Glendenning was suggesting similar on the Guardian's podcast - suspects Given is playing injured, and that's why he's not been up to his usual standard.

Sure. But he's made loads of good saves too.

He's made saves a Premiership goalie should make. Never rated him that much and was pissed off when City bought him and we farmed Joe Hart out to Brum where he made the PFA XI of the year.

Xabi Alonso has completed as many passes as the entire Irish team. Alonso has 106 to the Republic's 104 according to the Beeb, death by a thousand passes.
