so what's the archetypal *female* hipster look?

I rather like the female hipster look, it also seems to be a bit SK8R girl look.

And if you want to know how to be a hipster girl:

Must just be Birmingham then. They're certainly the ones hanging around with the beardy brigade :D
hmm - i got a lot more attenion for wearing fifties clothes in birmingham than i eer have anywhere else. people were stopping me on the street to complement me. But hipsters, i'm afraid, tend to look at rockabilly types as being a bit old and past-it. it's not a popular style among 17-24 year olds, which is the real concentrated hipster age group.

rocakbilly women tend to prefer a quiff and sideburns rather than big fisherman beards. 40-skewing vintage is different to hipster, too.

Of course, they might all be friends. I know. Hell in a handbasket!

Hm that's rockabilly 50s though. Ladylike/girlish 50s (ie more like what ordinary people would have worn) can be quite hipster.

It's massive chest and hand tattoos, t-shirt hanging off shoulders, the skinniest of jeans, black plimsolls or ankle boots, and often a grubby, slouchy woolly hat, round here.

I would have thought that the female hipster would be artistic tattoos, eye brow or lip piercing, make up and 50s hair. Clothes tend to focus on being stylish but not particularly revealing.

I've never really understood if they are effectively a sub-culture or a generic term for younger people who wear the latest fashion.

The clothes and fashion shown on this thread just look like a lot of yp I know who I wouldn't think of as hipsters!

That is such a hipster thing to say. So hip you don't know any hipsters :hmm:

According to my students being called a hipster is similar to being called gay in a derogatory way.

Yeah, I've just realised I've reached the age where all young people look the same to me :D
