I think there's a danger here of thinking of her as being anti the Patriarchy (even though she's not flat out said it and we're perhaps just hoping it) and perhaps giving her too much leeway for that, when she could just be capitalist through and through.

Yeah, far easier to just call people whores than, you know, think or make reasoned arguments. :facepalm:

Or does it bother you that people are able to think critically on this one and debate it rationally? What in your opinion is there space for in this thread, apart from your whorephobia?
 
Tbh I do find the sociology accusations a little strange, when I'm coming from a very psychological angle. I mean, in part it's basic Bandura. Given that, you know, I'm actually a psychologist and all, and over time that will have an impact on how I view things (see! My choices have become limited too!! ;):D)
 
Just for the sake of full disclosure: I've never studied sociology in my life. My degree was in performing arts and English. I'm no longer sure if that makes it ok for me to discuss my opinions here...
 
it doesn't matter if you studied the evolution of the biro though does it? It doesn't matter if you spent your entire GCSE exam period in a school for the excluded and were so stoned you got across the board ungradeds cos you never even turned up. It's still fairly obvious that talking about whores and the notional sanctity of the female body is not on. Cos it buys into a virgin/whore mythos that does nothing for anyone.

whoah!! I dont look down on anyone, man! I used the term 'whoor' which is what we say in Dublin, for 'hooker'

in Dublin if a girl looks cheap, ye might say 'stop whooring yerself'

thats just how i meant it: stop whooring yerself Miley - ie, no need to throw it around, ie dress and twerk, like that. Sinead O connor and Annie Lennox used the word prostitute - i said same thing in the way i (and many people from the Northside of Dublin, where i come from) talk? :p

i also specifically said earlier that it was what it looked like, not is as i figured some fool would get on their hobby horse and accuse me of anti feminine bollox (espec when the premise of the whole like, thread, is the opposite....:rolleyes:). i even highlighted that so i would not be misunderstood...

So do me a favour and dont read loads of shite into what i didnt say, thanks:)

Glitter already explained to you about the loaded language. You don't agree and continue to use it - but it's this language that makes it look as though you're looking down on prostitutes. And you can shove your rolleyes up your arse.
 
sorry im just home, and havent read other posts on this thread - listen, im sorry if my loaded language offended anyone. And i dont mind you telling me to shove it up my arse, actually thats similar to saying whoor, where i come from....:cool: I roll my eyes because i dont like people making daft assumptions based on that language, which is part of my vernacular and isnt at all loaded. To make assumptions are wrong.

You're not grasping that using "whoor" whore hooker whatever vernacular in a derogatory fashion or to criticise someone's behaviour = that you consider prostitution and prostitutes to be deserving of whatever vernacular epithet and using those epithets in a derogatory fashion is shaming language.

Wait Sineaed (sp?) is not having Miley Cyrus (sp?) stick her arse out coz like she is better and noone cares about either of them BUT it got big in Ireland coz Sinaed (sp? is like only one to defend the decency of Ireland?
