should i bother with gavin & stacey?

Season 1 & 2 were actually pretty good. I'm glad I saw them before it became apparent what a absolute honking twat Cordon is.

Unfortunately Season 3 is all a bit shit so far.

I agree, apart from the scene in which Gavin's parents' neighbours renewed their vows. That really did make me LOL.

Looks like the consensus over the last sixteen years in answer to this question has been “no”, and I haven’t missed anything. It sounds like scheduled telly from the twentieth century.

Funny how the two writers made the title characters so unlikeable to make their own ones stand out :hmm:

Has Smithy fallen through the bar yet?

Never really been into it but I feel such a killjoy if I start slagging all the obvious plot devices and caricatured stereotypes. It’s harmless innit.

'Had its day' came to mind. The early series were really good though.

Essex Bridezilla was something else!

It's one of those shows that I've prolly seen every episode of, but in the background and out of order. As a sitcom aficionado who has watched maybe 50+ xmas specials in the past month, it's never done anything for me

Yeah, ticked all the boxes, didn't try to do anything clever (indeed seemed to relish in the clunky dialogue, esp between Pam and Mick early on), was never going to convince any Anti-Cordenista of his brilliance...Perfect Christmas day fayre.

That and Wallace and Gromit, BBC really understood the mission yesterday

Yeah we sat and watched that and Eastenders and Wallace and Gromit, it was really chilled and nice tbf.

The kids loved Eastenders. We never normally watch it but they were like "what is this!?".

We weren't keen on the first half hour. They could have cut that and made a better 60 minutes. Once that first 30 minutes was done I enjoyed it. I'll probably enjoy it more each time I watch it.

Can't help feeling that they were concentrating on making it a finale rather than ongoing funny which was a pity.

Agreed, especially about wanting it to be a finale - hadn't thought of it that way, but that was definitely what the problem was. But it had some funny bits, and it was nice that Gwen got a boyfriend - including who it was.
