Rather mundane, I agree…That seems a rather, er, unusual name for any boat/ ship, let alone a warship. HMS Vanguard, Valiant, Dauntless… and here we have HMS Duncan.

I’ve posted this before on the boards somewhere; there’s an absolutely fascinating story (and a much happier one as far as the welfare of the stranded sailors goes) regarding what happened to the many ships that were on the Suez Canal when the Six Day War broke out. Basically it involved dozens of ships from multiple countries, and the stranded sailors formed a community that evolved even to issuing their own stamps, having Olympic Game competitions, and more.
