Been following Magic Carpet?Yes, for ages. A very worthy project and a fascinating look at boatbuilding. So happy to see that its now in the water.

Agreed. It's stunningly informative and well done.Although anything boat or sail is good for me Im kinda more interested by the sailing adventures than the boat diy. Leo and his Tally Ho rebuild are an exception due to the historical ancient hand construction and his clear explanations and openness with his demonstrations. I think traditional boatbuilders and their students are going to be referring to his films for years to come. Hes done a great service to that and very well done too.

the last Morse Code station
America’s Last Morse-Code Station
Maritime Morse code was formally phased out in 1999, but in California, a group of enthusiasts who call themselves the “radio squirrels” keeps the tradition alive.www.theatlantic.com
Morse code is not quite extinct: The U.S. Navy still teaches it to a few sailors, and in 2017, a British man who had broken his leg on a beach used it to signal for help in the dark with a flashlight.
You still need to be able to read it ( in slow time) to identify aviation beacons.
My first division officer job in the USN was signals division officer. The signalmen are the ones used the semaphore flags you are talking about, among their other duties.when i was a boy scout we had a choice, morse or semaphor. i chose semaphor, becuase it was so useful in manhattan (joke*), but also becuase i could see a system in it that i couldn't see in morse.
* on second thought i can easily imagine communicating rooftop to rooftop this way, so you parents wouldn't hear your phone conversations
