Self-indulgent pet thread

Our neighbours are having a bonfire party tonight. A frightened Lily didn't know whether to go upstairs or down.

Great names! I like Sugar 1 and 2. We had dogs called Poochie 1, 2 and 3 when I was very small. Damn, we weren't very imaginative!

It's great when you can have a conversation (well, after a fashion) with your pets! :)

Sadly we didn't have Brownie for very long, she got gastroenteritis and passed away despite veterinary treatment (the others we had all lived good long and healthy lives). I don't know all the proper terminology for colours and coat types, but she was a brown semi-longhair with a few rosettes, one on her head, and a couple on her rump. Sugar 1 & 2 were both albino shorthairs. Ebony was a black shorthair with one rosette on her face. Candy was a chestnut-brown and white shorthair, with the typical 'banding' of white midway down her body.

They do make excellent pets, especially for children who respect them and can handle small animals with due care, they tend to be quite laid back and seem to enjoy being cuddled and given lots of attention. I recall being bitten/scratched quite badly by pet rabbits, but the piggies were far more tolerant, worst I ever got from them was a warning nip (to which I paid good heed!) when they'd had enough.

ours are full of baby clothes he hasn't grown into yet... so they are probably quite comfy

He has been particularly ace today. He clearly wants to bat at the baby's feet when he waves them around, and sometimes gets as far as sticking his paw out- then he remembers he shouldn't and withdraws the paw reeeeaaaaally slowly looking pained :D

Ha ha, that's fantastic. Such self restraint! Oh, the temptation! :)

I hear a lot of the supermodels live on lettuce leaves - Yours look very good on it.

If I recall correctly, guinea pigs have to have a diet rich in lots of veg, because they cannot break down certain foods into the vitamins and minerals they need to stay healthy (I think it is that they have a high need for vitamin C from fresh veg, because their metabolism cannot break down other food to provide the same benefit.) Some pets can live on pelleted food bought from a pet shop (although it must be really dull and is not ideal), but piggies need their fresh veg and leaves and should always have a good supply of leafy greens and other veg. :)
