Happy parrot cuddle times in the sun :)

She'd been for a splish in her baff and spent ages drying off and preening afterwards which is why she looks so sleek :D

She is such a cute little thing, she does indeed look sleek :) I love all the different shades of green they have in their plumage, my Sennie had a similar array of green tones - very pretty. :)

The lilac boy on the left had his annual checkup today, he's had trouble with gingivitis and dental problems for a while now (it's common in the breed - maybe because they have long jaws, not sure really - and he seems especially prone, he's already had a couple of teeth out) and I've been quoted £490 for the next lot of dental surgery, he's going to need at least 6 teeth removed. :( The cost is bad enough, but the worry of him having to have a general anaesthetic (again) is horrible.

ETA: The blue cat on the right does have 2 eyes, he just has one closed because of the enthusiastic face-washing that he is receiving. He doesn't look thrilled about it, does he? :D

I'm in awe of her feathers, the colour is just so beautiful and each one seems a different shade. She's just learned a new noise and is now marching around my shoulders making it repeatedly just to see what I think of it :D

It's when they turn and you see the sunlight catching the edges of some of those feathers to make them appear a bit iridescent, gives you some tiny snippet of how birds appear to each other, with their better detection of wavelengths outside of our normal perception. They must look very bright and glowing to one another. I have heard it suggested that when a cockatoo grazing on the ground raises its crest in alarm/warning, it appears to other birds like a great big bright flare, the way certain light wavelengths reflect off it. To us it just looks like pretty feathers!

And what do you think of her new noise? Is it a good one? :)

Oh, that's fascinating! I didn't know that. She must look radioactive! :D

Her new noise isn't great to be honest. For such a pretty wee thing most of her everyday noises are quite metallic and raspy. Makes it all the more special when she really starts burbling though :)

I just love their natural call though, which is a very odd metallic buzzing sound for a bird to make - it kind of makes sense that they'd pick up and repeat other metallic sounding noises. Somehow birds' natural noises are often the most pleasing, my Sennie used to sing and his song was mostly just going 'oooooo' on one note, then 'ooooo' a semitone higher, that was his natural song. It was quite haunting and beautiful. He never talked that much, he leaned to say 'give us a kiss' and 'whos a good boooooyy' very well but he was never a great talker. Best talker I ever had was a budgie (i've had more than 10 budgies, but only this one talked), bloody massive vocabulary, sounded like a miniature and high-pitched dalek but my goodness he was really clever and often talked in context, very intelligent creature. His name was Captain Beaky

And I've remembered how when he used to say 'whos a good boooooyy' he would flash his eyes and lift his foot up and rub it across the top of his head, indicating that he wanted a head rub. Miss you so much Jasper xx *gulp* :(

Oh crumbs, that doesn't sound nice. Anaesthetics are the most worrying thing about guinea pig surgery (which is why vets who'll do dental treatment under local are prized like gold dust!) Fingers crossed will be okay. (Thought the expression of the "lickee" might be due to the halitosis!) :)

Thanks! Hard to stop snapping when she just keeps doing cute things! :)
(PS: How's the non-furry new kitten Manter ? Forging evil alliances with Ghengis yet?)

He's gorgeous :) plenty of baby spam on the self indulgent baby thread :)
They have worked out how to pin me down between the two of them so I can't move and end cuddles, but other than that they have an uneasy truce. Idiot cat is seriously tempted to chase Mantito's feet, but resists. Though it clearly pains him...

General anaesthetic is worrying in any circumstance for any animal, but I don't think any vet would do dental surgery on a cat with just local anaesthetic, cats are quite strong, have multiple weapons, and even the most good-natured can be prone to panic when their mouth is being fucked with. One of the reasons cats have dental problems is that it can be pretty much impossible to ever brush their teeth, even the softest easily-handled cat can go a bit 'what in the holy fuck do you think you're doing? - Deploy Weapons' when you try to use a finger brush in their mouth.

He doesn't have bad breath, nor any trouble eating (obviously if he had trouble eating it would make this urgent!) - if I hadn't seen for myself the state of his gums and teeth, I would have found it hard to believe. He spends a lot of time right up close to me and doesn't have halitosis.
