Self-indulgent pet thread

Gross, but I can believe it, especially with Herbie. He never drank much, mind, but peed like only twice a day and hardly anything. Breeze on the other hand drinks like a fish and pisses like a Russian Race Horse.

edit - no, she's not diabetic. Maine Coons do drink alot - probably play about and splash more than they drink though.

Just picked up my stray from the old house. She's now no longer a stray, but a permanent resident. Or until I can get someone to take her off my hands anyway.

Where the hell have you brought me?

In her new home she becomes...ceiling Rambo!

And for some reason she doesn't want to make it easy to type this (her actual position right now):

Yes, she walks on a lead. You sort of more follow where she wants to go rather than lead her though, but it usually works. I get her harnesses from this place http://www.mynwoodcatjackets.co.uk/ (she's currently the 11th photo on the "Catwalk" page.) She's got a few with custom fabrics and I'm about to have some more done. Fun and functional!

I don't think she grooms herself as much as our late short haired ginger tom Herbie did. She gets a brushing most days, and the furminator really helps to keep the loose bits out of the way. No problem with furballs so far (was huge problem for Herbie.) What kind of longhair is yours?

Just a domestic long hair, but she grooms a lot, and is really noisy about.

I probably don't brush her as much as I should though

Definitely recommend the Furminator thing. It gets quite alot of fur out from even a relatively "short" brushing session - particularly handy for kitties that aren't keen on brushing.

It's a scientifically proven fact that a dog's natural food in the wild is the doner kebab.
you're probably not far wrong with Rusty, as he was a stray. Although he had very nearly starved to death, so maybe he didn't find many of them.

very happy new caturday :)

I know what you mean!

There's a list of the different Furminators here http://www.furminator.com/products.aspx so just pick the one that fits the size and fur length of your pet most. Breeze has the large long hair cat one. (I had a shot at trying to brush Griff pig with it and he nearly took my finger off, so decided not to try that again!) It was folks here that got me on to this thing, but I haven't found anything else that works like it.

With Herbie though, something like a "hound glove" (one of those things that looks like a mitten but has small rubber/plastic "bristles" (like either of these) worked well as he loved being stroked, so you could get out loose hairs at the same time!

The rubber ones with the thick cone-shaped teeth (Zoom Groom) are excellent for shorthairs, not that they need much grooming but they are very useful during moults as all the hair is attracted to the brush rather than getting everywhere, so great for removing loose hairs.

Radar has this habit of piling all the litter up in one end of the tray, then pissing directly on the plastic, sounds like a bloody water-feature. He seems to prefer doing this at around 4am in the bedroom litter tray, sometimes manages to wake us both up with the scratching then the weeing then the scratching again. He is very good at covering though, I think that's why he needs all the litter at one end, so he can spend the next 15 minutes carefully arranging it back on top of his wee... :hmm: You don't want to know about Sonic's weeing habits, the dirty wee bugger!

Blimey, how much grooming do they need? I've only ever had shorthair rabbits - I tend to go for pets that need little grooming

This reminds me of a Steve Martin sketch about the embezzling cat from Saturday night live years ago!

"I found out my cat was embezzling from me . . . Well, I found out that when I'm away, he goes to the mailbox, picks up the checks, takes them down to the bank and cashes them. The way I caught him, I went out to his little house, where he sleeps at night, and there was like $3,000 worth of cat toys out there. And you can't return them, because they have spit all over them."

Summer-Breeze who is getting on a bit now, she had already been named Breeze when we got her as a kitten so we added the Summer which is what we actually call her.

Gorgeous! Lovely to see another Breeze (a Summer one rather than a Cool one!)
