OMG, Poppy is the spit of the puppy I got when I was 5, which was a "pekepoo." She was jet black, but started going grey about 7 or 8 months. Gorgeous.

Seriously thought about getting a cockapoo when I saw three of them at the vets office a couple months ago, then I decided on a dog cat!

. . . and here she is, at last Breeze! She spent about 2 hours under the sofa, just reaching out now and again with massive paws to grab a Dreamie. Then she came out and has been all over the flat, climbing, pulling things out, wriggling and now, meowing for tummy tickles. I've been running around like David Bailey, just firing random shots of her. She really is a beaut, very kitten like and bigger than I remembered, not fat at all, but incredibly long with massive hands.

She's very curious about the pigs - tried to reach in and touch Griff, but her hands were too fat :) He wasn't bothered. She won't be left alone with them unsupervised, even though their cage is secure. They get the living room and kitchen. She gets the rest of the house. It worked with Herbie, so unless she works out how to turn a door knob, I think we'll all be okay. She might be fine when she "meets" them properly, but that will be for another day.

CRI I love the style and decor of your house in your pics. It always looks really bright and fun without ever being tacky or gaudy. It looks like a well nice place to live in :D

Ah thanks folks. OH and I are both completely besotted of course! Fully expecting her to trash the half of the house that's hers, probably starting by climbing the 8 ft high bookshelves in the hall. Thanks for the compliment about the flat smmudge (no idea how to do a linky). Kitchen was shocking pink when we moved in, so decided just to run with a sort of wacky random colour scheme. Place is chock full of toys, especially lego and playmobil. We're like kids with far too much pocket money :) Breeze could be the thin end of the pet wedge as well.

CRI - she's gorgeous! Sounds very confident, a couple of hours under the sofa before coming out to explore is nothing. My one that I got as an adult spent about 9 hours in hiding (I had to pop food and water bowls under the bed for him) which is still pretty good for an adult cat - and he doesn't like being in a carrier so the 2 hour journey to bring him home was grueling for all of us, he actually broke the door off the carrier (as an ex-stud he is large and extremely strong and muscular) thankfully we were getting a lift rather than on public transport, but you don't want a cat loose in a car so I had to take the laces out of my trainers to tie the door back on the carrier. After that ordeal, I felt like hiding under the bed for a bit!

When we went to bed he was still lurking underneath, but when we woke up in the morning he was sandwiched between us purring extremely loudly and begging for chin-rubs, and ever since then has been one of the happiest most contented cats I have ever met. :)

Ah, Epona, what a great story. Seems Breeze isn't keen on carriers either, but tends to just slobber (hence the untidy chin in all the photos.) Going to get her one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mynwood-C...UK_Pet_Supplies_Cats&var=&hash=item3a83575729 first just to wear around the house, then try with a lead and eventually go in the car. I don't like the idea of an animal that gets really traumatised when travelling, as usually the one time you have to take them in the car it's to the vets, and they'll already be stressed if they're ill. I think she is pretty confident (like this morning, you'd think she'd lived here all her life,) and smart, so should be okay if I take time with training her on this.

Oh, and huge thanks to everyone who suggested the Furminator. Her people said she didn't like grooming - thankfully that's a lie! Like Herbie, she goes all pervy when you brush her with an ordinary brush, and only slightly less so with the Furminator but wow, handfuls of fur come out. Got mine a bit cheaper on Amazon and think it's going to be the best thing ever.

how is a furminator different to other grooming brushes? my cats are hairy, shedding buggers but one wont let me near her with a brush and the other one seems to need brushing every day despite being short harired.

Breeze is breathtaking. Those ear tufts! Are you sure she's not part lynx ... or snow leopard?
congratulations to you and the dogcat.

I'm still in love :) She's decided she likes jumping on the swivel chair and spinning around a few times (Bond villain stylee!)

The furminator has a sort of blade in it that seems to pull out the undercoat, but it doesn't pull. I tried it on my hair and it didn't do anything. Maybe you have to be a cat. Tried it on Griff and got a bite (but his fur is, well "unique.")

There are theories about the origin of Maine Coons suggesting domestic cats mating with bobcats (very like lynx) because of the ears and Racoons because of the way they play in the water and sometimes eat food with their front paws, but I think they are just really cool kitties.

(Sorry for taking over the thread with uncontainable excitement at my good fortune!)

In this picture she reminds me of Lenin cat

Nothing to do with the markings, all about the expression. :D
I think I remember that kitteh - same discussion where someone pointed out that Malcolm pig looked like Mussolini and Griff bore a passing resemblance to Constantin Chernenko, if I remember correctly! Pets? Dictators? Yeah, not much difference! :D

Think one of the theories that's fairly popular is that the maine coon is a result of the norwegian forest cats who went over to america with the Vikings, and got on better with the native wildcats than the vikings got on with the human native americans...
