Salmond deid

He was a big boozer. Mate of mine was editing a book by him a few years ago and they went out drinking after a meeting. Salmond got totally hammered.

Pretty sure he used that as part of the "excuse" of his awful behaviour with women.

Sad for his family but the behaviour that came out after the investigation was appalling and the immediate obits seemingly sweeping it under the carpet are pretty hard to stomach

Yes. He seemed an unpleasant man, and also apparently believed that his position gave him a free pass.

He was a massive figure in Scottish nationalism and devolution era Scotland. I wonder the extent to which his fall out with sturgeon led to the project imploding or whether he was merely at the top before what was always going to collapse due to its increasingly obvious contradictions began crumbling

Well, I was shocked to hear of the death of Salmond, and it made me contemplate my own mortality.

Scottish politicians do have a tendency to drop dead unexpectedly: Smith, Darling, Cook, Dewar, and now Salmond.

Wikipedia tells me that Darling was suffering from cancer, so perhaps his death was not unexpected.
