RIP David Bowie

Anyone seen the interview with Jimmy Page, when he was a fresh faced middle class grammar school boy, hard to believe he would end up in Crowleys old house and doing the things he is alledged to have done,

Same with Plant, the Doc on him on BBC4 showed him to be a very interesting empathetic man, just not with women it seems.

I'm normally fairly hardboiled about these things, but I did the shock/disbelief/sadness thing when I read of Bowie's death this morning.

As it happens, it was a story link on the bottom of a Sun page online (yes, I know...) about doctors living the high life, and I initially assumed it was just some bit of Sun bollocks, so when I checked an authoritative source (Urban, as it goes), it was a real shock.

RIP. Regardless of the controversies.

I know it's inevitable but it's really pissing me off hearing Cameron pay tribute to Bowie on the news. Fuck off.

Ah, the chameleon of politics, friend to all

just spoke to me mam about it and she likes him and everyone knows a bowie song. endlessly inventive even if some of his stuff wasn't great (tin machine). unofficial day of mourning in UK.

Bullshit the structure of your post was if, then. Meaing I didn't have dyslexia. If I had dyslexia I would have used a spell checker I didn't therfore do not have dyslexia.

Why should someone with dyslexia have to use a spellchecker by the way. I do when possible but don't think I should have to.

Agreed - sorry for the technical language, but using a 2nd conditional clause like that always implies that the thing you're talking about doesn't exist. That's the very purpose of that kind clause.

Your spelling actually isn't that bad anyway, btw. But for those who find spelling extremely difficult I actually would recommend using a spellchecker a lot, partly because it makes the posts easier for other dyslexics (etc) to read. (Obviously spellechecker doesn't pick up everything, but it is helpful).

He was one of those artists who when you hear a really well known song you go 'oh, was this song by David Bowie?' like I did just now whilst hearing Changes. Probably obvious for loads of people on here but I was never a great follower of his music.

When I'm on my phone I tend to rely on the predictive text to get it right. If it gets it wrong I usually can't spot it unless it is really obvious.

interesting that BBC news is covering bowie RIP and then later the whole nonsense about anglican homophobia, something which bowie was way ahead of with hunky dory cover in a dress, bisexuality, etc. it wasn't just music but attitudes he influenced.

He was one of the few open bisexuals around when I was growing up. It wasn't just the music that inspired me.

by the way Radio 6 is full of bowie music and sad emails!

Quite grateful for it really. As I said, was never really a follower of Bowie, dunno why just never gave him much of a listen but of course knew a lot of his songs because he's one of those artists that permeated culture and did so for so long. Hearing the selection of songs they're playing makes me understand, now more than ever, why he was so well liked and respected. An obscenely creative and talented person.

i would never call myself a bowie fan as i dont have any of his stuff, but i know loads of his songs and am singing along with kooks now. i had also started listening to his berlin stuff and space odd, as well as revisiting hunky dory, a lot of late.
