When I was a teenager of indeterminate sexuality and appearance Bowie was about as close to an idol as I had. But I'm surprised by how genuinely this news has upset me - never normally happens for someone I didn't know personally.

Bowie's music has been with me almost all my life, from listening to 'Rebel Rebel' on R1 as a teenage schoolgirl to sitting in our living room listening to him singing poignantly about Berlin.

Fuck. Was just reading reviews of Black Star yesterday and thinking how incredible it was that he was constantly reinventing himself and challenging himself, you may not have liked the direction he took but you had to say it was new and bold.

At my aged the first real contact with Bowie was Heroes and Labyrinth. I always liked the story about how he waited till his contract with, I think, Defries was up and then released his my most wildly successful popular music as a fuck you.

My point is perfectly clear.

I am saying, unequivocally, that David Bowie - just like Iggy Pop, Jimmy Page and many more contemporaries... and like Elvis, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis et al before them - had sex with lots of underage girls back in his 70's heyday. Bill Wyman was still at it with 13 year-olds at the age of 50 FFS. It was very common back then. Came with the territory so to speak,

Nowadays what was common then would get you the jail straight away. Anybody daring to mention that 'things were different back then' is regularly called an apologist for noncery on here.

Some celebs - because we love them for their artistic genius - get a bye-ball. Others, such as celebrity DJs and TV presenters, don't.

I think that is worthy of discussion.
