RIP David Bowie

I wasn't that great a fan, and was never too impressed with his flirtation with nazi imagery in the '70s.

As mentioned by Thora, I loved Labyrinth.

My sympathies to his family and friends.

RIP David Bowie. A big part of my teens and a real music legend.

I shall watch Absolute Beginners and raise a glass to a major influence on music and me.

Well that was unexpected.
Just been explaining to the daughter why a celeb death (in her eyes) has actually thrown me a little.
Glad he came out of retirement to make music up to the end.

NO! Fuck.
an extraordinary, phenomenal talent. massive influence on music and popular culture. And still doing his stuff right up to the end. A bona fide pop music genius.
RIP major tom, ziggy stardust, thin white duke and - er.... - the elf in labyrinth.

I'm kind of shocked at how much of a shock this is, if you see what I mean. Actually, I reckon you all do.

Years ago, (there might have been some Elvis hagiography on the telly or something), some friends and I were wondering which musician/singer of our time would hit people as quite the same "end of an era" thing as older people seemed to think about Elvis or Marilyn Monroe or something, and we decided it would be David Bowie. Others were in the running, but we figured it would be Bowie. I am sad now to have a chance to find out if that is really the case. Shit, it really ought be to a hoax, though I know it's not. He's sort of immortal.

I'm shocked and stunned. Coming on top of the death of one of my closest friends as well.

It's the main news on BBC Radio 4 Today programme. It's a huge thing that he has gone.

I went to his gigs at Friars Aylesbury just as he was breaking through. I saw one of the first performances of Ziggy Stardust, in fact. I was 14.

I also saw him at Earls Court a year later. I remember him calling out for anyone from Friars Aylesbury, and we all cheered.

We even studied his music in our school music lessons.

Actually not in the mood to hear any of the music for a while :-(

No doubt will be everywhere for days though so better get over that.

Blackstar is great too - he is still very much a relevant artist we have lost, who had not finished with his career by a long chalk.

Diamond Dogs is going to get some serious welly later on ......sad news. His ex Angie is currently languishing in the Celebrity Big Brother house hold , imagine they will have to tell her.
