Reporter and cameraman shot dead during live TV interview in Virginia

I don't understand why the Brits never just adopted the AR 18 wholesale . Sterling armouries ended up being the last people making it for the civilian market. It would have cost next to nothing , easy to manufacture , robust , compact , and it actually worked !!

Granted it had a bit of an image problem due to its favourite customer, but still .

Maggie wanted a product so she could flogg rof off to someone and didnt care what it was.
Mind you pira spent more time than was strickly neccessry arseing about with mortars
The mounting them on lorrys was a masterstroke the first shot was reasonable.
Unfortunatly the frist shot also wrecked the suspension so the rest went in all directions ruining all the hard work:D

Depended on the workmanship I suppose

Interesting pic here of a para on patrol who's swapped his trusty bundook and gone native

the SAS and other undercovers favoured them as well . They might have had something worth flogging if theyd just kept it simple and went with what they had .

We had an officer while he was who was picking the susat scope that had fallen off approached by a local IRA man who claimed to have nicked a load of the UDR but as they were shit do you want them back?:D

Should have made a massive effort to sell them to the third world so helping world peace cant really fight a vicious civil war with a pile of junk and even the bayonets toss its doesnt even make a decent club:rolleyes::facepalm:

Instead we sold about 80% of our SLRs off to "friendlies" like Sierra Leone.

The A2 works it should as its weight in gold was handed over to the rhine dwarfs of hk to fix the wretched thing.:hmm:
1st designed in 4.85mm to win the nato new ammo comp as the yanks used 5.56 never going to happen.
2nd a quick redesign didnt work so ROC stole the ar18 design off sterling and bodged it into a bullpup.
3rd Maggie sold off roc to bae who looked at the sites and decided hmm nice place for yuppie flats oh my the way workers once this gats built sling yer hooks, strangely that didnt produce a quality product not that bae gave a shit:mad:

Michel klashnikov got shown one when he visted the uk god only knows why you'd that bloke builds a legendary assualt rifle and you show him a piece of crap, his comment was "you must have very clever soldiers"

Only the indians have managed to create a worse weapon the inas all the faults of the sa80 plus a tendacy to spit hot oil into the unfortunate firers face:eek::facepalm:.
One excuse given is the indian rifle is ideal for making sure india doesnt start something with china or pakistan :hmm:

Hasn't the Indian Army recently been buying up stocks and issuing them to their frontline infantry?

Mind you america has set aside 1/2 billion dollars for a new pistol, which should be a simple thing but they want a modular combat system of enhanced lethality and accuracy. Last time they tried that they got the MK23 of splinter cell fame very accurate very powerful but the size and weight of a small car not exactly a plus in a handgun:facepalm: HECKEL and KOCH built the handgun to special forces spec unfortunatly US special forces cant write sane specs:D

They should just persevere with the M9. It's not a brilliant specialist weapon, but it's a decent all-rounder, even if using a 9mm pistol does give US special forces a bad case of dick-wilt.

Never going to happen as the pentagons got a sad on with beretta apprantly buying handguns 30 years ago and two wars later things have worn out who knew
Indias dug out its old aks and are issuing them although their procurment system makes the MoD look stunning .

Had friends who got mortared then got sent out at 3 am to find the mortar bombs as they'd missed and failed to explode British sportsmanship I suppouse; ok you failed to kill them the first time we will let them go look for the bombs in case they blow .
Anyway the blundered about in the dark for an hour throughly pissed off failed to find anybombs.
Bomb disposal officer in daylight did his nut because they found one bomb in a field with a load of footprints going one way and then back the other :D

That's not a genuine patrol in NI or anywhere else, it's a staged or training photo.

Really? I don't recall seeing any when I was out there. Though probably they already have enough decent guns in stock (for obvious and depressing reasons).

You mean you missed the delightful picture of "Buff" Hoon being tutored in the use of the L1A1 SLR by a Gurkha corporal on detachment to the Sierra Leonean army, back when he was Minister of Defence, the corry-fisted wanker? :D

Used to have a running joke with the doughboys in Germany that their sidearms were the same M1911s their grandads packed in WW2.

Definitely a "fuck off" order, that. "Sorry sir, couldn't find them in the dark, sir".

Not necessarily true about the beret/helmet. And the gloves and smock were used well into the '90s. But the DZ flash is 10 Para, the (now disbanded) TA unit. And it wasn't in NI as if he was on an attachment there (or in fact anywhere) he'd have changed his DZ flash to the correctly coloured one. But the real teller is the AR was never used on active service like that, but was used in training/familarization sessions plenty.

Pedant/geek mode over.... sorry.

Alas, a google search for "Geoff Hoon Gurkha Sierra Leone" only brings up this:

UKarmywithSLRinSierraLeone.bmp

That's the pic! Was published in the Daily Mail, I think. Mad deluded fucks thought he was a good Sec of State for Defence.

And this, strangely enough:

The individual yeast cells in that loaf have a larger brain than Buff does.
