Rare red warning in Scotland ahead of Storm Éowyn Rare red warning in Scotland ahead of Storm Éowyn

“The Met Office has said high winds could reach 100mph in exposed western coasts and that there could be a risk to life due to flying debris, power cuts and damage to buildings.

The red warning will run from 10:00 to 17:00 on Friday and covers a large chunk of the central belt including Glasgow and Edinburgh, some islands and parts of south west Scotland.

East Lothian and East Ayrshire have already announced that all schools will be closed, with other councils expected to follow suit.”

Make your boss aware. Tell them Traffic Scotland warns of risk to life.

My Edinburgh based mate is going to be working (he works for a care operator but on a office role) to support the staff on site at one of their locations

He’s meant to be going to some sort of rugby match in the borders at Galashiels on Saturday. Not sure if that will be going ahead, suppose it depends on both the impact and when recovery post storm can begin

Edinburgh schools all shut too now. Council running 'essential services only'. I was just having a chat with one of the other shop owners near my work and they and at least half of the other shops on the street are closing. Hopefully my boss will be guilted into action soon too (I'm not at work tomorrow so it doesn't affect me personally but really noone should be feeling they have to travel in this)

Colleague just spoke to a customer on the phone who is a consultant at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. He said all the emergency services are, and I quote, 'shitting themselves' about this storm. He is not normally an emergency department doctor but is going into work before 6am in the hope of avoiding the worst of it and then essentially camping out there because they are expecting a lot of trauma patients.
