Reclaim The Streets in London, Sat 23rd June?

Anyone know anything about this (if you do, don't post up anything incriminating, obvs!). I'd love a good RTS party!

Thing is, I'm not sure if it's even possible to do a RTS party in the current police/political climate and in the age of social media where everything is monitored and people share so easily.

When they happened in the '90s they came out of a cultural and political time that I suspect can't be replicated by just sticking a similar flyer out. Some low key thing could go off, maybe that's what it'll be?

Suppose you would need a critical mass of intelligent people to kick it off. I `m a bit cynical about the chances of achieving that. I`m sure it`s still achievable somehow.

Does it come from an organized group or is it a one man band kinda deal anyone know?

Amp racks and speaker cabs are certainly lighter and more energy efficient now. The Police might also be more image conscious in certain parts and therefore more likely to get in the spirit.

Because mostly I think the political utility of the RTS events were really specific to a time, and wouldn't be that relevant or useful now really. It'd be like some weird '90s re-enactment thing. We also don't have the same culture of the time that they drew their strength from - the party/rave/anti-roads crossover in the aftermath of the CJA.

Yeah, could probably put a street party on with the right effort, but it would be a pretty poor event without the meaning the context that the '90s gave them.

It'd be a different thing for sure, but I think the basic idea, of claiming part of the public space without official sanction, is more vital than ever.

There's still got to be scope for the dynamic irruption in everyday life that was a good RTS but it'd look completely different from this which does look like a bit of a reenactment.

Modern left politics could definitely do with a dose of chaotic hedonism though.

My god the m41 thing thing was in 1996. I can't get my head around that, definitely felt like a grownup that day but was not.
