I remember being thrilled by puffins on a school boat trip, seeing a group of them flying quite close to our boat. I was struck by what a lot of wing-flappin’ effort they seemed to require just to keep above the water’s surface. Slightly comical but very endearing and a wonderful bird in any case. Love puffins

Yeah they have a right funny flight in comparison to a Tern for example. I think it's the best way to identify them when sighted or through the binoculars.

Obviously seagulls are related to all other birds so you're weird approach doesn't work. :p
