Political journalists boycott No 10 briefing after PM's aide tries to ban selected reporters - Guardian

Marty nonsense aside, It is true that the papers banned were relatively left of the bunch. It's clear what this is, an attempt to demonise that part of the press that isn't in full kowtow to the Tories, and create a cultural notion for what passes as acceptable. As we don't have a left wing press this lot will have to do.

They kept the Guardian in, natch

It is clear what this is...and it's worked; look what we're talking about.

How? What does this have to do with what say the mirror publishes? Is it 60 pages on what boris johnson said at a presser or something?

Just re-checked the beeb - nothing obviously about covering this subject.

Hasn't there always been some sort of approved list or could any old journo turn up until now? I presume you couldn't just wander in saying your from Mixmag or something.

These briefings would previously been at the HoC, to which the government does not control access, and have now been moved to 10 Downing Street where it does. This was flagged up a while back, with the prediction that exactly what has happened today would end up happening.

Wonder if this has anything to do with Dominic Cummings?

He’s been frequently ambushed on the streets by reporters rather than booking sit down interviews, I assume the former is to paint him in as bad a light as possible.

Nonetheless, banning far left news organisations from press briefings is a bad move bound to open a can of worms.
Lol you're so fucking transparent.

So this barely got reported. BBC didnt have in on their website at all that i could see, apart from a paragraph on a live blog no one saw. Only those excluded reported about it
Needless to say if Corbyn in opposition, never mind in power, had done this it would be front page top story news.

So, are you defending 'our' shit media or attacking it here?

The Guardian reported on it this morning and on their liveblog yesterday and they weren't excluded. Also the Times have got a report on it - they were excluded but apparently only because they sent a different journalist.

Wasn't there some handbags the other day when the media were briefed about Johnson giving a statement at 10pm before Brexit, and it was widely expected to be live outside No.10 and then it turned out he just released a pre-recorded video to social media, so BBC/ITV etc didn't show it in full on principle other than snippets saying he'd done a video.
