Please advise me on finding radical films for a film showing

Jonezy

Tell 'em to fuck off
Sorry to bother you,

Does anyone know any good film resources? I know about clearer channel and beyond tv and I have the schnews DVD. I'm looking for some good short films about corporate globalisation and war/asylum, as well as some good interviews with cats like Noam Chomsky or Michael Albert, would also be good to get more vids that discuss alternatives and the positive things ordinary people can do to make a difference.

It's for a benefit gig called Word On The Street in Derby and we're really trying to give a snap shot of how consumerism and corporate globalisation lead to asylum, homelessness and poverty whilst posing solutions or showing inspiring footage of those trying to make a difference.

Any help would be very gratefully received and reciprocated in any way I can.

Cheers

Thank you for that. I dont know much about Bit Torrent, I downloaded the software though and tried to download some of these torrents, however they're not making any progress? Any clues?

Thanks xx

This double DVD (to buy) featuring two films on Anarchism: Review of Anarchism in America/The Free Voice of Labour: The Jewish Anarchists

However I just posted a link to the free documentary 'The Free Voice of Labour: The Jewish Anarchists in this forum.

I'll see if I can root out some more for you. Can't promise anything though.

a bit out of date but inspirational - the m11 protest video. "end of the road"? also there's a beanfield vid out there that is compulsive viewing.

More good work by yourself Jonezy, but why not get away from the cul-de sac
of 'activism' and the 'sexy issues' why not focus on housing, welfare, the NHS, drugs, you know issues that affect us everyday. Pilton video in Edinburgh have done a great Ihr long video on their successful campaign against council housing privatisation, folk on the 'other site have it' i'll try and post more details.

I'm really grateful for all the responses, very kind of people to take time out to point us in the right direction.

I agree with you as well treelover. I guess my ignorance is the main hurdle.

I'd like to try and get hold of the schnews 2005 dvd as that has some useful films on it, they're shut for chrimbo now though so no way of getting hold of it before next wednesday.

Anyone know any links to films from this DVD on the web. I'm thinkning bout the Arms Fair video with the promo adverts being shown plus the community garden made?

All the best and many thanks

Try googling 'repressed distribution', they have a fair few films.

ETA: actually they've got naff all. But if you email them they'll be able to help.

The group that I'm part of (South London Solidarity Federation) has been running film nights in New Cross for a few months now.

As well as the films & sources folks have recommended so far, I'd add, don't be afraid of showing more "mainstream" stuff. We're showing Blue Collar this month (see http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077248/ for details), which is a great film. Later on this year, we're having 9 to 5, with the mighty Dolly Parton.

IMO a "radical film" is a film that gets people thinking and talking about the things that shape their lives -- work, politics, relationships, or whatever.
