I suspect there is more money in player pictures than crowd ones, but that will be because picture editors buy them, not necessarily because photographers are not taking them. Articles in the national press (at least in print) will usually be illustrated by one picture, and it needs to jump out from the page. Most crowd pictures fall down on two counts - firstly they tend to look a bit flat in print, and secondly the reader's eye is more likely to be caught by a well known player.
Looking at Andy's album (and if you have only looked on your phone, I thoroughly recommend looking on a bigger screen), the whole portfolio gives a really good feel for the day for those like me who were unable to attend, and will I am sure carry some superb memories for those who were there. However, if I were to look through with the eye of a picture editor on a paper, I could very quickly get down to half a dozen or so that I think would work in print and I would consider buying.
