Perfect Cuppa / Mug Of Tea

Twinnings Everyday teabag in a mug. Pour on boiling water. Stand for 30 seconds. Remove teabag and put in a dash of semi skimmed milk. Perfect.

Earl Grey is shite. Lady Grey is even worse. Fruit and herbal teas are an abomination. Coffee is the devil's juice.

Oolong and Keemun blend in a small pot, infused several times over the course of a day, and even the next ...

A fine cup of Earl Grey does very nicely whilst the whilst the espresso machine is heating-up in the morning! :)

Perfect = Loose leaf Yorkshire Gold in a warm porcelain teapot, left to brew for 3-4 minutes and poured into a warm mug using a strainer. Add a dash of milk after the tea is poured.

Most practical - Yorkshire teabag in a mug, brewed for 3-4 minutes and then a little bit of milk.

30 seconds is about right for Twinnings Everyday tea. Other, inferior teas need longer!
You would probably like pure Kenyan tea then.

So far as I was led to believe, your standard blended teabag contains something like Ceylon for flavour, Darjeeling for body and Kenyan for colour.

I suspect the latter is what the brief dunkers are mostly drinking.

To get the intended results, you need to use a pot so you can add more water to it and brew it for longer.

We believe that how you make your Everyday tea is as important as the tea itself, so here are our tips:
- Use freshly drawn cold water
- Use water at a “rolling boil” (100?C)
- Use 1 teabag per cup or 1 teabag per person in a teapot
- Steep for 3 to 5 minutes (or to your taste)
- Best with a splash of milk
… and for freshness every time, keep your tea somewhere cool, dark, dry and airtight!

My dad, if the shop has run out of semi-skimmed milk, will buy both whole and skimmed milk and carefully mix the two together to create milk of the correct milkiness to go in his tea. There is such a thing as taking tea too seriously.

1 part Assam:1 Ceylon: 2 English Breakfast (Assam, Ceylon, Kenyan), brewed in a pot. Made by somebody else. Poured into a decent size mug with a splash of milk in the bottom of it.

Fail. Soya milk changes the molecular structure of tea, turning it into something horrid.

Must try harder.

I hardly use any milk. Skimmed is ok at a push but full fat is gross and stomach turning... I'm much safer sticking with soya milk. I wouldn't adulterate my coffee with it though, which obviously should be drunk black

Not for one second do I believe that the shape of the bag (pyramid, round, square or mobius) makes a jot of difference. Pure marketing tosh.

He is being sensible. Milk sweetens the tea. Whole milk will change the taste he expects as will skimmed. Also I expect he prefers semi-skimmed for other used of milk, for example the breakfast cereal he will have with his morning tea.

It's really hard to get a decent cup of tea anywhere - even the ones I make myself could be better. Butchers makes the best tea.

A colleague used to make me cups of tea that were really minging - like dirty dishwater, with no taste at all. Later I discovered that he used one teabag to make two cups, and mine was always the second!

How often do you have that perfect mug of tea? I really like Earl Grey with milk and sugar but after having it every morning for a few weeks I wake up one day and just can't drink it any more. Then I take a break and drink something else. How loyal are you to your perfect cuppa?
