Oysters?

So romantic

Fair enough, but I'll stick to cheese or cold cuts.
I can hear it now: "You did what? With my screwdrivers?"
Shop online, then.<snip>
You're somewhat missing the point: I'm not that keen on shellfish, and oysters are really seriously expensive over here, so my buying an oyster knife (and armoured glove) would have as much of a point as buying VP one of those experience of a lifetime vouchers.

It'd never get used.

I was responding to this comment from you:

Here, you'd hardly ever see one on sale. And when it is, it'd be just a tad more expensive than that.

My reply wasn't a suggestion for you to buy one; it was pointing out that it's possible for someone who's interested in obtaining one, to purchase an oyster knife at not too high a price.

Not many points for presentation here.

I'm halfway through and tbf, it's fucking delicious. I thought I'd overdone the tartar sauce on the first bite but I must have not spread it evenly. A proper faff it was, but worth a bash at least once. Or buy some pre-shucked if you can :D

You made an oyster burger: congratulations! It looks better than the one I had two days ago...

Nice one. :)

Thanks Johnny. That's nice to hear coming from an obvious oyster expert/connoisseur such as yourself :)

As to the oyster knife: yeah, it's not too expensive, but this is the first time I've ever bought oysters at home and in all honestly, I'm not sure I'll do it again any time soon. It wouldn't be worth getting a tool for single use.

A week ago I was laughing at the idea of an oyster burger and now 75% of the oysters I've eaten in my life have been in burger form :D

Try it with snails and let me know. ;)

I saw a few snails in my front garden when I moved in. When they come back from wherever they go in winter, I'll start collecting them and give it a bash. ;)

Not a burger, mind. Something else :hmm:

We've had a couple of oyster knives over the years; but these days if we want oysters, we'll go out for them. Shucking them at home is a lot of hassle: we'd always soak them in fresh water overnight before preparing them, then the shucking - lots of mess and work.

It's like making sushi at home, which we've also done, quite a while ago. Sort of fun to do it yourself, but once all the work is done, it's not quite the same as just going to a restaurant.

Yeah, I get ya. But I'm unemployed and single and the minute so restaurant oysters aren't going to happen. And I NEEDED to try an oyster burger :D

Thanks for mentioning them ;)

ffs don't let on that the unemployed can afford to eat oysters! IDS and the Tory feckless poor bashers will be demanding an immediate cut in benefits.
Mind you they were a cheap staple for the poor in the 18th century.

Only in burger form, though, which I eat from a plastic tray in front of my massive telly.

Please don't tell Jamie Oliver!
