you should listen to it now. it's aged much better than a lot of that braindance stuff...

now: leonard cohen - live from the beacon theatre feb 2009

the manson family - sings the songs of charles manson

the blurb sez 'better than most similar albums not made by hippie murder cults'

...which isn't a lie. it's pretty damn good.

if you're concerned that i might be funding murderers by buying their music, you'll be no doubt relieved to read that i illegally downloaded it. :)

b12 - electro soma

One of those records I never seem to be able to find in the shops. :(

Tricky - "Maxinquaye"

I don't why it took me so long to get this (at some point last year), having bought "Blue Lines", "Dummy" and their successors about ten years ago. "Maxinquaye" is arguably more stunning than any of them though.

Brenda Fassie - Memeza
Brenda Fassie - Myekeleni

Overdosing on kwaito in training for the inevitable World Cup accompaniment organised by sound men who think the only musicians South Africa have ever produced are Miriam Makeba and Ladysmith Black Mambazo.

One of my all time favourite albums that...spent many a happy hour horizontal ont couch with a big fat spliff ensconced in me gob and the headphones on, when that came out

Oh, and I was listening to Alabama 3 - Revolver Soul again this morning - fucking love it :cool: Can't wait to see them play it all live (well, have seen em play loads of it, but now all the words are in my head )

God's Little Monkeys - New Maps Of Hell
Ladysmith Black Mambazo - Two Worlds One Heart
Transglobal Underground - International Times

it's out of print, and fairly expensive.

Really? That's quite good, because it gives me a legitimate excuse to just download it. If something's been deleted or was never released in this country, I figure I'm fairly clear morally speaking. Cheers. :)

I'm currently listening to a 15 minute, ambient noise experiment by Black Dice.

Yeah it's great like that - kinda dreary otherwise though (much as I like him)

I'd never have described it as dreary! Scary yeh, clever yeh, stoner yeh, but never dreary :D I was amazed at the time how he managed to transcribe the feeling of being very stoned (how your brain and mind feel, the actual physical feeling of it) into music. Thought, and still think, the guy's a fucking genius

tobacco - fucked up friends

the most killingly brilliant album i've bought in many years, can't stop playing it, which is very rare for me. manages the impossible feat of turning 80s stuff into something totally new, very witty and deliciously twisted. i've done a search in this forum and incredibly nobody seems to know about it. there's loads of their stuff on youtube... search for 'backwoods altar' and take it from there... if anybody's interested...

Fucking awesome.

Hey dogbotty - Mariachi El Bronx were the fucking DOG'S the other week - I was well impressed

So funny to see these hardcore chaps up on the stage, producing such sweet sweet mariachi music :D Loved the frontman too - massive charisma

Wicked

Matt's brilliant, eh? He's in my list of all time faves, I reckon.

What's surprising is how much the normal Bronx records have crossed over to a lot of the people buying, or coming to gigs to see MeB. Wouldn't normally happen, imo. Too heavy, too hardcore. But... they're SO good...

I think Matt and Joby really set them apart. Amazing singer, amazing guitarist. The rest of the band's dead tight, too.

Mariachi El Bronx next. ;)

I was nattering to a Bronx fan in the smoking area and he was pissed off cos they didn't do any Bronx stuff! I didn't expect them to given that they were playing under the name MEB, but this guy was proper upset, and hated the mariachi stuff :D
