recent listening:
Urban 75 radio - Music Club and Supine's show (until I reached where I'd come in the other day)
Katie Melula - Call Of The Search:oops:

now: New Kingdom - Paradise Don't Come Cheap
(seing it's in Uncut's great lost albums list.) still

Toumani Diabate and Ballake Sissoko - New Ancient Strings

Am playing this a lot lately - had it for absolutely bloody ages but barely listened to it. I'd like to get my hands on more of this kora stuff - it sounds so different to all other string music...bit like a mellow deeply toned harp but with all these African mad rhythms

Recently it's been the old symphonic prog in anticipation of the Union Chapel gig next month:

The Enid - Autumn "Veni Creator Spiritus"

The Enid - Song of Fand (live)

Lush, overblown, preposterous, gorgeous

Eyephuro - Yellela

From Mozambique, and fits nicely in between Zimbabwean chimurenga, and South African mbaqanga. As one might expect. Lovely tap your feet shake your hips music.

General Fiasco - buildings Very good indeed. Very Ash.

Kids In Glass Houses - Dirt. Boring.

Caribou - Swim. Really quite yummy.

Bembeya Jazz National - Bembeya

Fabulous. That hip rolling West African bass and percussion, a giggling guitar on top, and bursts of belly laughs from arguably the most joyous brass section ever. Absolutely love it to death.

Boukman Eksperyans - Live At Red Rock

Like Gregory Isaacs and a soca band covering Edith Piaf's unrecorded political salsa songs. Strange and slightly disconcerting.
