Old fogey opinions on modern popular music amnesty

Over the last 18 months, given I have YouTube music, I have made a point of listening to 'Top 50 albums' of last few years - there is definitely some good off-kilter pop out there, but there are some types of album I know will never do anything for me.
TBF i dont really know what Im talking about as I dont listen to it - Im going on very vague impressions
can you remember the name of any of this offkilter pop that stood out

ska invita Obvious ones like Billie Eilish, Jessie Ware, Christine & the Queens (who I liked anyway)

The Japan House I liked a lot as well, I think there were some other more obscure ones but can't remember off the top of my head.

one thing that really annoys me is how you find a decent online music blog that has some goods tips for new music, some atmospheric black metal or underground hip-hop for example. Next thing you know is they are reviewing the Adele album and giving it 9/10.

I think it's sad there's no adult pop anymore. I guess the 80s was the golden age for that.
I'm sure there's adults making adult melodic catchy songs, but they're not going to be played alongside Teenybopper pop.
Pop charts/pop radio is pure business products now... Maybe the 1950s is the closest equivalent

I find adult (sorta) pop I like: Lou Hayter, Biig Piig, Jessie Ware... I'd even class Roisin Murphy as adult pop.

I can't comment on a lot of the music kids listen to because I mostly avoid it.

Have to admit, I'm chuffed to say I've heard barely a note of Adele's new material.

I now tut tut at grime rappers talking about stabbing and shooting each other, not to mention dealing drugs. What hope have the kids got!

(I happily listened to this music 15 years ago)
