It's got fuck all to do with 'something to tell the grandkids'. I want to watch it because - astonishingly - I'm interested in the political and social developments of one of the most powerful nations on earth.

Well none obviously Mr Facetious. Believe it or not I didn't post that to challenge your choice of how to spend your time, I just wondered why it's so important to watch it live with the irritating commentary that will doubtless accompany it when tomorrow I could pick and choose the best bits.

Because I don't want to watch it live doesn't mean I'm less interested.

The 'something to tell the grandkids' comment wasn't directed at you, more the approach the media already seem to be taking to the whole thing, so sorry if you felt I was having a pop.

I'll probably pick up the highlights tomorrow. I'm a bit put off by the unseemly showiness of it. The change in leadership in a "democracy" should be lowkey. Keep it pared down to traditional elements, but lose the hype, please. There's no reason that this should cost $176 Mil.
