Obama inauguration: Who's watching live?

There is far too much reference to God in Obama's inaurguration.

I don't see that God is necessarily on America's side. Perhaps he is on someone else's side, ever thought of that america? huh huh, eh !!
He said that some Americans are non-believers. That's quite something!

He mentioned them first.
"We are a nation of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus - and non-believers".

And he did say it was their God-given right, etc.

But for an American president in an inauguration speech to acknowledge that some Americans are non-believers is actually quite a step.

I don't expect much from him, it has to be said, but credit where credit is due.

Saw the Obama speech via BBC news web at work. Historic day. I was in Trafalgar Square when Mandela was released. If I had said then there would be a black president of US - people would think I was mad.

Yes the world is in a deep crisis and Obama may not have all the answers but given the gloom it is good to have some hope - even for one day.

Obama only need to deliver a tenth of the change he has talked about, and it will be enough for me to turn my cynicism dial down one notch. Which would be timely. Because although there is something naive, vulgar and dangerous in the ease with which many Americans can suspend their disbelief so easily, hope and belief can also achieve great things.

Our cynicism is tremendously useful many times, but I think there will be so many genuine hardships to moan about in the years to come, that we might benefit from just a teensy bit more positive belief. Too much faith is bad, but no faith at all brings its own dangers.

So after 8 years of cynicism overload due to the smirk's reign of shame, I am looking forward to at least a few cameo appearances by hope. Given that the USA still rules the world for now, and that we do not have the power to change that, I need to hope that the USA will regain just a little sanity and respectability. I do not expect much, but despite my relatively low opinion of humanity, the last 8 Bush years were hard to take. Even I need some hope to cling to now and then. The war and misery wont end, the suffering will likely never be justified, but even having one big change to point to would be something, give some meaning to the horror, the horror.

I've been watching CNN (no choice where I am) and it's seriously like watching it as if it were The Simpsons news.

We've had spinning satelitle images from space of the "moment" we've had viewers sending images of the "moment" and the production of a 3D image of the "moment"

And all the while, multiple Kent Brockman's have had their fingers pressed to their ears saying things like "yes, yes, folks - we can now confirm that there are in fact round tables being used in the lunchoen. That's round tables folks."

Oh! it gets even more surreal :D...
One bug eyed reporter - the one covering 'Luncheon' - is now saying she just heard that Ted Kennedy has collapsed in the said lunchoen and looks like she might be quite literally pissing her pants on air at the prospect of having broken this story...

It's all kicking off now!

Ted Kennedy AND senator Robert Byrd have collapsed from seizures in the lunch

Oh fuck it, I can't do CNN anymore.
They've now got an actual story in the midtst of all there air filling and they are doorstepping every poor bastard coming out of the lunch:
"what was President Obama's reaction to the tragic events that have just unfolded in the lunch?"

FUCK OFF!!!

I'm going over to a France2 now.
