Needham Market v. Dulwich Hamlet, 23rd April 2016

It would be useful to know, a couple of days before the game, how many you are expecting to bring - as it's the last game and the club doesn't get used for much else, we need to have enough beer, burgers etc without being left with tons of either / both to get rid of!

At the moment there is one coach, plus the train people, plus a possible second coach.
Likely to be at least 100, possibly closer to 200. Hard to be sure. Last year we needed a result at Tonbridge on the final day to cement a play-off place and took around 300. Obviously that's more local, but our average attendances have risen further since then, and there's the 'new club we've never been to before' factor. We must have taken nearly 100 to Leiston last weekend with rubbish weather and a replacement bus service on part of the rail route.

Has the ground improved since these photos were taken?

Yes, quite a few changes though the main stand is basically the same. Clubhouse has been extended, with much improved catering facilities, more covered standing on far side, seated stand behind one of the goals (with a stand due to go up at the other end in the close season). Generally much tidier but still has that 'made it up as we went along' feeling, which some people like and others see as a bit of a mess! Bear in mind we have had 3 promotions in 10 years, so started from a very basic local league set up.

Our last two home games (Bognor and Farnborough) both had away followings of 50 or so and they were very complimentary and had a great time (helped by the fact that they won....). One warning is that we have managed to get away with having no outside toilet facilities, so be prepared to queue!

And you still wonder why I said you can get out and walk coming back from the Margate play off after criticizing the speed I was going (70mph) in the pissing rain AND after passing a car upside down on the M2

:(

There seems to be some confusion amongst the Needham Market fans as to whether Farnborough's automatic relegation punishment means they're safe from relegation or not, regardless of who finishes in 21st place.

According to ryman statement at start of year Farnborough will be relegated once if finishing outside bottom four and twice if finishing inside bottom 4.

Whoever finishes 4th from bottom is sure to be reprieved as Farnborough will be relegated wherever they finish.

I hate the 'guessing game'.only a few seasons ago we'd have taken, maybe 40 to this, if it meant something!
Anything over two hundred...and I'm living the dream! ;)

In the past, (as in seven or eight years ago) if it wasn't a 'new ground' which will always boost some numbers, and if it was a 'meaningless' game...then we'd have been lucky to take twenty!

Wasn't going to go to this one, but bugger it... just booked train tickets.

Just out of interest what fares are people paying? Obviously going, come what may, but don't seem to be able to find a fare for less than £45 return from ED (£30 if three or more people).

Try buying separate tickets. I've bought a return to Cambridge and another ticket to Needham Market. I think it was £25 in total. Pink Panther is the train ticket guru though.

I booked a number of £18 returns weeks ago (this is the cheapest price). With a gold card user they currently come out at £27.35, same price for group saver (3+). 11 out / 18:50 back

This was the route I used for Leiston to avoid the replacement bus service. Was only £12.30 from my local station to Cambridge including cross London transfer by Tube with Network Card discount. Don't anyone reckon on buying their ticket for the second leg at Cambridge though, I made that mistake for last season's trip to Bury and only just made the connection with seconds to spare - there's a 14 minute connection, but Cambridge station ticket office is mayhem on a Saturday morning, I'd advise anyone to buy their ticket for the second leg online in advance, or I believe you can book it at King's Cross on the day.

I booked for £9 each way Stratford to Needham Market (changing at Colchester and Ipswich) a few weeks back. This was cheaper than going from Liverpool St (which is more fiddly for me to get to in the first place) and you can get to Stratford from Overground stations for £1.50 each way with an Oystercard as long as you swipe on the pink reader at Canada Water or Whitechapel. Just checked and you can still get £9 for the return leg leaving NM @ 1850, but cheapest outward tickets are now £17.50 from Stratford. Bizarrely you can get £16.80 outward from Liverpool St, but returning to Liverpool St the cheapest is also £16.80 on the 1750 service out of NM.

If you have a Network Card Manningtree is the last station on the Ipswich line within the Network Card Zone. Cheapest walk up far on the route is to book a day return to Manningtree from your local station with Netwoek Card discount, then a separate day return from Manningtree to Needham Market. (You don't need to actually break the journey, you can book this ticket online or should be able to book it from a ticket office at a local station and have it with you before you board the Ipswich train. Only criterion is that the train must call at Manningtree, which I believe all trains connecting with NM services at Ipswich do.)

Otherwise go via Sankara's route, which I did for the Leiston trip.

I've paid £30.85 in total, from Liverpool Street (£16.80 one way, £13.30 coming back). That's through thetrainline.com. Haven't yet factored in cost of getting to Liverpool Street from Dulwich, but I'll probably just use buses for that part.
