Needham Market v. Dulwich Hamlet, 23rd April 2016

OK let's get this bit in first. Congratulations to Gavin and the boys. Over 46 games we made it into the play-offs two seasons running and our place there is deserved. So well done.

Now to yesterday - utter dog shit of a performance. Singling out players never nice but Carew by a country mile worst player out there. I'm well over 20st but I reckon I could do him for pace over 20 metres. And when the things he is supposed to be good at (passing, set pieces, corners are poor he is off the scale awful.

James in the hole hasn't worked in the 3 games I've seen him in it at the season close. If anything him being out there chastising players, berating refs is a distraction and impairs our own players.

And MPD being asked to play out wide left with no left foot is an appalling tactic. MPD in the 10 role as he did for the last 15 mins is a danger. Out wide he is ineffective and anonymous and yet we kept on playing him in instead of Clunis on the right??!

Neither team tried to play football but we have the players who should be and in doing so forcing the game. Last 10 we were a threat had we played more like that we would have secured our own fate not relied on other results.

Beaney looked assured when he came on. Scannell has to be a better choice than James either wide with MPD in the hole or in the 10 slot himself. RMW or Hibbert wide left.

Whatever the outcome on Thursday if Rose sets us up like he did yesterday we're screwed.

Needham Market, nice little town, nice little ground, warm reception. Deserved win. Well done

Couldn't make it. Glad we're in the playoffs but following on the web it was squeaky bum time for much of the afternoon. One goal from Enfield would have changed everything (not just for us - Hampton & Richmond wouldn't be champions either!) No chance of making Thursday either but hopefully we'll be in the final.

A very strange, yet enjoyable away day. Greater Anglia was shit. Being stuck between Manningtree and Ipswich, sweating it out over a train delay is no fun. It was pretty much worth it for the arrival time in the Needham bar. A brilliant turn out.

The football was woeful, but the support was superb. I was sitting with a decent bunch of home fans who made us feel very welcome. Being photographed by the police for the train journey home was just WEIRD.

Random words.

I too wasn't impressed with the performance. But I clapped, cheered and sung my heart out at the end NOT because of how the players did yesterday.

It was for reaching the play-offs, even if we did it the hard the way, by the skin of our teeth. Believe me, if this was an 'ordinary' defeat somewhere else in the season I wouldn't have bothered either...but some who didn't applaud today have been 'lemmings' in the past, post-match, so some double standards there?

Yes, we have under-achieved this season, and some games have been abysmal. BUT...we are STILL in the play-offs, thus a chance of promotion. There has still been some great football this season, and there are nineteen clubs below who would like to be in the current position we are.

How do you think the players would have felt if they had gone off to silence having reached the play-offs?

With a bit of luck those who refused to respect where we finished won't bother on Thursday....because it's EXACTLY the support we gave at the end that the players need on Thursday, when we will be the underdogs, based on league position & current form.

Just about recovered from hangover - I was drinking Guinness but we ran out at about 7pm and I made the mistake of going onto Stella.....

I know you would rather have won, but at least you deservedly made the play offs and we have stayed up without having to worry about the Farnborough situation - hopefully Burgess Hill will get the reprieve.

Agree it wasn't much of a game but we took our chances for a change. It was great to see so many of you and I got the impression that everyone enjoyed themselves despite the result. Good luck in the play-offs but, being selfish, I would like to see you back here next season to increase the bar takings!

Terrible match, but taken over a season, a play-off place is deserved. That table doesn't lie.

Really enjoyed the club though - delighted Needham
Market stayed up, felt like a proper community club. Would love to make a proper day of it next season when I'm back on my feet :)

I still don't want to go up via the play-offs. That said, I suspect I'll be cheering with everyone else if we break our play-off hoodoo

Delighted to see us make the play-offs, but it's a pity we limped rather than swaggered over the finishing line. I think that performance just highlighted the fact that, regardless of what division we're in next season, there still need to be big changes made. We've got far too many players on the pitch playing with their heads down, looking like they have no hunger for a fight. And also too many good, expensive players sitting on the bench or up in the stand (I'm still not sure why that is, but it continues to indicate that the manager/coaches at best struggle to get the most out of established players, or at worst have a habit of just plain falling out with people).

In a lot of ways I think the signing of Dipo has served to paper over some of the cracks, but even he had an off-game on Saturday, other than a few bursts of inspiration. And I may be alone here but I haven't been very impressed with Roman MP.

Hopefully the team can somehow find it within themselves to pull two big performances out of the bag, but given that a lot of them probably already know they won't be here next season, I'm a little sceptical. Bognor's results of late would suggest that they simply want this more. Anyway, fingers and toes crossed.

Lovely away ground, incidentally. Probably one of my favourites in the division.
