Nasty Job Interview Questions - Best Responses?

Last September I was up in Dundalk for a teaching job. Somebody on the panel asked me "looking at your CV, I don't see much evidence of career progression - what do you say to that?"

It possibly wasn't that form of words, but not far off it. I can't remember exactly what I said, but I do know that I didn't get the job!

Hence the present thread - what are the nastier kind of questions you're likely to get in a job interview, and what are the best responses?

I guess I would have countered with "I was valued for the role I performed and was appropriately rewarded"

Though again I'm a teacher so the only real progression is to stop teaching and start managing and that isn't necessarily a logical progression.

I guess the 'right' answer is to be positive and talk about being valued for doing, and enjoying, whatever level of work you do now.

Rather than saying 'I want to do this job, not get in to a lot of faffing about with bollocks like doing annual appraisals and other pointless middle management bullshit'

some employers do seem to think there's something wrong with people who aren't constantly trying to 'get on' and regard them as 'dead wood'

I once replied to the question 'So, what do you want to get out of this role' - with 'To make as much money as fast as possible and fuck off to Asia'

Didn't get it. I do remember, from the other side, when I was interviewing people, the best answer to one of my questions, fuck knows what it was, but his response 'Is it ok if I smoke in here?'. He then proceeded to try to get my colleague's mobile number while waiting for the lifts on his way out.

Respect.
