Mundane pictures of the North

A couple of nice pictures of kids in 60s Manchester by Shirley Baker in the Guardian today

Children Playing on a Street Corner, Manchester, 1961

Our local village one has shut too, but the running of a (lesser) alternative has been taken on by a group of volunteers. As someone with a librarianship qualification (or just as a regular resident really) I'm not happy about that, or the fact the county council is shutting libraries/outsourcing library services to the voluntary sector.

Luckily that one is still open and well used, despite appearances.

Mundane & not so mundane. Morecambe this afternoon / evening. The weather played ball & the Bay looked amazing.

When I first came to Leeds, this corner unit was a grocery shop and since then a series of restaurants. Just noticed this sign the other day that seems to come from an earlier era with what looks like two crossed pipes - a tobacconist perhaps?

Fucking hell, I’ve passed that daily when I was in high school and almost daily for years since I moved back and haven’t noticed that!
Do you mind if use the image to ask about it on my local FB group? Or have you been researching too?
