Having watched BBC News for some minutes, it appears there is a lack of information about the current situation. Whilst the presenter was keen to give the impression that gunmen are currently marauding around the streets, and that there are lots of hostages, its unclear if this matches the present reality at all. This all kicked off some hours ago now.
If there are hostages then this will obviously make the situation a lot more complicated, and my hopes that the death toll has been overstated is starting to fade, but I dont think we're going to get a clear picture till tomorrow.

Shit, if its any comfort theres loads of hotels around there and its only the very top ones that have been targeted.

Well I guess there was definately an exploding vehicle somewhere as there is a picture of a pair of charred wheels lying in a street on the BBC site.
The hostage & commando stuff is very worrying, I was obviously hoping that the hostage stuff was just rumors but a lot of the horror seems to be true

I know it's not going to make you feel any better, but there's shit loads of hotels round there...and sounds like they've just gone for the two very pricey ones and Leopolds (which is always very busy with Westerners and very exposed too) so hopefully the chances are that they're tucked away somewhere safe.
Must be very worrying for you though!

News has just reported that a Mujahadeen group is claiming responsibility. Apparently also the Anti-Terrorism Chief was murdered, and there have now been reports that a woman and childrens hospital is under attack.
Fucking awful.

Yes. Ive no idea whether its true, the problem with the hysterical 'bad stuff is happening right now' style is that I have no idea whether its accurate, and the bits of info are picked up and speculated about by presenters in realtime.
This sort of TV coverage amplifies the terror, just as the already hideous attacks on the WTC were magnified so many times by the million replays.
