Banana for scale
The only example I can think of off the top of my head is Furries - I dare say people who now call themselves 'furries' existed before the Internet, but I can't imagine they had anything like a very coherent network before it.
It seems to now include a large variety of people from people who actually have a sexual thing about dressing up as animals to people who either have an imaginary 'animal persona' online and/or like to write stories about animals/fantasy creatures, as far as I can tell from communities like this . I do find it fascinating to look through sites of 'web cultures' like this.
Could furries exist without the web? What other examples are there of groups that have been created/become coherent apparently through the Internet? I guess quite a lot of them might, sadly, be rather dodgy...
