Misogynist barbarians in Alabama impose forced pregnancy law

At least a few Christians realize what the Evangelicals are:

An open letter to white evangelicals: We’re done with you.
By North Carolina Pastor John Pavlovitz

Dear White Evangelicals,

I need to tell you something: People have had it with you. They’re done. They want nothing to do with you any longer, and here’s why: They see your hypocrisy, your inconsistency, your incredibly selective mercy, and your thinly veiled supremacy.

For eight years they watched you relentlessly demonize a Black President; a man faithfully married for 26 years; a doting father and husband without a hint of moral scandal or the slightest whiff of infidelity. They watched you deny his personal faith convictions, argue his birthplace, and assail his character—all without cause or evidence.

They saw you brandish Scriptures to malign him and use the laziest of racial stereotypes in criticizing him. And through it all, White Evangelicals—you never once suggested that God placed him where he was, you never publicly offered prayers for him and his family, you never welcomed him to your Christian Universities, you never gave him the benefit of the doubt in any instance, you never spoke of offering him forgiveness or mercy, your evangelists never publicly thanked God for his leadership, your pastors never took to the pulpit to offer solidarity with him, you never made any effort to affirm his humanity or show the love of Jesus to him in any quantifiable measure.

You violently opposed him at every single turn—without offering a single ounce of the grace you claim as the heart of your faith tradition. You jettisoned Jesus as you dispensed damnation on him.

And yet you give carte blanche to a white Republican man so riddled with depravity, so littered with extramarital affairs, so unapologetically vile, with such a vast resume of moral filth—that the mind boggles.

And the change in you is unmistakable. It has been an astonishing conversion to behold: a being born again.

With him, you suddenly find religion. With him, you’re now willing to offer full absolution. With him, all is forgiven without repentance or admission. With him, you’re suddenly able to see some invisible, deeply buried heart. With him, sin has become unimportant, and compassion no longer a requirement. With him, you see only Providence.

And White Evangelicals, all those people who have had it with you—they see it all clearly. They recognize the toxic source of your inconsistency.

They see that pigmentation and party are your sole deities. They see that you aren’t interested in perpetuating the love of God or emulating the heart of Jesus. They see that you aren’t burdened to love the least, or to be agents of compassion, or to care for your Muslim, gay, African, female, or poor neighbors as yourself.

They see that all you’re really interested in doing is making a God in your own ivory image and demanding that the world bow down to it.

They recognize this all about white, Republican Jesus—not dark-skinned Jesus of Nazareth.

And I know you don’t realize it, but you’re digging your own grave these days; the grave of your very faith tradition.

Your willingness to align yourself with cruelty is a costly marriage. Yes, you’ve gained a Supreme Court seat, a few months with the Presidency as a mouthpiece, and the cheap high of temporary power—but you’ve lost a whole lot more.

You’ve lost an audience with millions of wise, decent, good-hearted, faithful people with eyes to see this ugliness. You’ve lost any moral high ground or spiritual authority with a generation. You’ve lost any semblance of Christlikeness. You’ve lost the plot. And most of all you’ve lost your soul.

I know it’s likely you’ll dismiss these words. The fact that you’ve even made your bed with such malevolence, shows how far gone you are and how insulated you are from the reality in front of you. But I had to at least try to reach you. It’s what Jesus would do.

#done John Pavlovitz

I think this probably dates to the Obama administration, but it's still relevant now. I wish more Christians would speak out against the use of the word "Jesus" to justify every kind of hate imaginable.

Lives already at risk:

Woman who had major complications (amniotic fluid loss) having to wait until she could prove that she had a life-threatening infection (required fever and foul smelling discharge) before her pregnancy could be terminated. Because the foetus still had a heartbeat.

For anyone in the US, MoveOn.org has a petition to remove Justice Thomas from the court:

It's above a million signatures. I doubt if it has much effect, but it only takes a couple of minutes.

Erm.... What?

The Liberty Counsel is the legal arm of Jerry Falwell's group. This is clearly a conflict of interest. There's a body of judicial rules called The Model Rules that govern when a judge is supposed to bow out of a case, and when its ok to stay on. Fraternizing with people with cases before the court is generally frowned upon. These rules apply to all judges, except for the Supreme Court. They're relied upon to know when they should recuse themselves. We need to get congress to write a law making sure that the Model Rules apply to Supreme Court justices.

To be strictly accurate, she said that she is pro-choice, and doesn't want the law in this country to change, but her private preference is for a 20 week limit.

I don't think that's right. The Independent reports: "The culture secretary argued the legal cut-off point for pregnancy terminations in the UK - which is 24 weeks - should be reduced by a month." When she says she's 'pro-choice' she presumably means up to 20 weeks, but not after, i.e. she wants to see further restrictions on abortion access.

You can't be pro-choice and support restricting women's access to abortion. That's by definition anti-choice.
This is what she actually said:

"Ms Dorries, who has also previously served as health minister, reiterated her call for the need for two doctors to sign off on the procedure to be scrapped.

'I think abortion for women should be available on demand, no need for two doctors’ signatures, that they should just be, if that’s the decision they want to make, they should be trusted to make that decision.'

'It should just be that if someone wants an abortion, they should just be able to get one.

'And the Conservative Party position is that it’s a free choice issue, we’re settled on this, it’s where it is, it isn’t going to change.

'The impact of going back to the dark days of underground back street abortionists is a spectre too horrible to contemplate. It isn’t going to happen in the UK.'

And she blasted the comments of her now ex-colleague Danny Kruger, who previously sparked outrage when he argued women did not have an 'absolute right to bodily autonomy'.

'I am absolutely, utterly, unequivocally pro-choice,' Ms Dorries responded.

Having claimed to have seen the issue of 'botched abortions' in her own time working within the medical industry, Ms Dorries has previously led parliamentary calls to scrap the 24-week abortion cut-off point."

It's from the Mail - and the headline doesn't reflect the rest of the article - as is often the case with that particular paper.

This is, of course, Dorries we're talking about, so watching her trying to deal with logic is like watching a whale knitting. Calling yourself pro-choice whilst trying to limit access to abortions is exactly the sort of prime doublethink that gets you far in Johnson's cabinet.

Reading the article, I don't think I see any justification for why the window for abortion should be reduced. Has she got form on this "personal preference" where she's given a detailed argument based on data from medical professionals on why abortion limits should be reduced or is she, shock horror, potentially just pulling data straight from her fundament?

Not just cancer treatment and not just pregnant patients. Apparently some prescribers & pharmacists are already refusing to issue or fill prescriptions for abortifacient or teratogenic drugs like methotrexate, for any female patient (and presumably some trans people will be affected too), just because of the possible effect they could have on a hypothetical unplanned pregnancy.

MSM made a big deal about a 10 y/o rape victim having to travel to a different state for an abortion.

Right wing media claimed it was a hoax, Tucker Carlson even did a show about it.
How disgusting is the left to make up such a story just to make the zero-abortion states look bad?
If this really happened, why are the police trying to find the guy who did it? According to their research, no one was even looking for the rapist.

Shame on main stream media!!!!

The next day, they arrested the rapist. He admitted to raping the child at least twice.
Most of the right wing bunch deleted their twitter stuff, but Tucker is still on record for claiming this was just propaganda.
